View Full Version : Colorado Dojos
Hello All,
I am moving back to Colorado. Was wondering what Dojo should I join. I am going to be in the Boulder area so Colorado Springs is to far.
Any advice, rec. or input into Yamakage Dojo or Rocky Mountain Budokan?
Thanks
Kaoru

Hi!
Well, my suggestion is to go to both dojos and and if you can participate in a practice in both, if you have already been practicing for awhile, or, if you are just beginning, watch a practice at both dojos. That way, you can get a feel for which dojo fits you best, and talk to the sensei at both. That's the best way to pick a dojo. Don't forget to tell both senseis that you are going to try each dojo, because it's polite to tell them you are going to the other sensei's dojo. :) I hope this helps. Good luck!

Yeah, and even before you participate, you should try to get a feel about how the practice goes and what things the sensei teaches, pushes, or discourages. That way you can better pick a dojo that matches your Kendo goals and the things you want to learn and strive for.
While it may be difficult if there is just one dojo in the area, but if you have a choice, pick a dojo that you think you could embrace and enjoy wholeheartedly.

I am the contact for the yamakage dojo in Longmont. The advice you have received is very good. There is one other dojo in the Denver area. The Itto dojo practices in the Arvada YMCA. I have practiced with members of the Itto dojo, and the Rocky Mountain Budokan. They are all quality kenshi. We would welcome you to stop in and join us for a practice and encourage you to visit the other dojos.

I live in Arvada, CO and I have been looking for a dojo where I can take kendo lessons. My only problem is there are no dojos close to me. Can you suggest anything?

Hi,
Did you read the Mr. Gwin's post above? It looks as if all the dojo mentioned in this thread are within an hour's drive of Arvada.

Mr. Seay, howz-it going (by the way this is Logan from up in Greeley) Are you gonna be in Larimie next weekend?
As to the topic at hand RMB is a great place to train, I train in Cheyenne but we are affiliated with RMB through the RMKF. Here is their site with contact info, if you haven't seen this yet.

I didn't know they allready had the brackets made up. I wish he would post them, I am curious who is going to be kicking my butt... I guess Sensei had to pull people from the beginers brackets to fill up the intermediate group, I would rather have a match with higher ranks than lower... at least when you loose you can all ways blame it on being outranked.
See you later,
Logan
