has anyone tried any of those?
i've seen many japanese #11000 hakama's (aoi,chibabogu,etc)
but i've only seen a few #12000 ones (mostly korean i think).

Wow...I didn't even know they had anything above 10,000, which is what I have. 10,000 is stiff enough, I'd think twice about getting anything more than that, but that's just my opinion.

IMHO, overkill marketing. As the weave get thicker, that stuff does get heavier, esp when you start sweating...the last time I wore a double-weave gi or 10000 weave hakama was easily more than 7+ years ago.

The nice thing about it is that the more you wear it, the softer it gets but it's still thick enough to take pleats well. I like mine for winter use although I go to lighter weights during the summer.
YMMV

I'm ok with heavy hakama (I use an 11000 in the winter), but I wear cheap single weave gi 95% of the time. The more expensive stuff look way better though.

I find deluxe single-weave gi to be a fine compromise in that regard. I have the "INAI" which is the single-weave version of the "JIN". I would prefer the Fuji by Daruma by Anshin, but not sure how to get it in N. America with gaijin discount :D
I was using the INAI hakama which is 7000 weave and really made from 7 and a half pieces of fabric which holds the pleats better. But, because the himo is lighter on that one, I prefer the 8800 weave from chibabogu/mitsuboshi that I'm currently wearing. If you have a slight-bit of hara :D, 8000 weave and up is the way to go for the thicker himo that doesn't roll as much...or wear a obi.

I prefer double-layered gi, both for comfort and protection.

i like double-layered keikogi and heavy hakama's they feel really nice, but for hot weathers it feels like being in an oven

tozando has a #14000 hakama
would a >#10 000 feel like being in a cardbox (too stiff) and way too heavy?
