Same reason why scale model trains/boats/cars/planes exist. Same reason why a lot of people do kendo or other sports, it's a hobby.

People are a fan of a program and think it's nice to own something that's a port of that show. Look at all the kids running around in spiderman costumes.

As big a Star Wars geek as I am, believe me, I understand that... I'm wondering what possible niche within the show is filled by a sword designed like this.

Bleach is a manga and has a anime based on the manga storyline. Deathgods slay enemies with their swords. These swords come in a lot of different shapes and each have different powers. This sword doubles the amount of weight of an object each time it strikes it.

Okay, well at least they have some kind of justification for it... I'm just glad I got out of the anime scene before cosplaying became so rampant.

Ok, nowadays, people sell, people buy, fine. If there are people who want to buy the sword, why should there be no one to sell it? A market is a market, whatever the ideal that swords martial artists' follow and respect, the world goes that way.

Ok, yea right.

BUT

Who in his right mind would EVER slam a sword against a table like this guy did? Is it not a requirement in infomercial recruitment to own a brain for a minimum of two years? This is metal (I won't argue or discuss which one as I am not a that knowledgeable in swords above the fact that it is DANGEROUS) and it is sharp. This guy is on TV, he has some responsibility towards the viewers who might contain a fair amount of kids playing DOOM another fair (or not) amount of time.

What? Why?

Hey, I just.... no. Ok, I'll sit in the corner there and settle down.

Please come and get me when it's Mc Sushi time.

That can be a dangerous way to justify something. By the same argument, I should import cratefulls of AK-47s from China, move them through Los Angeles harbor, and truck them to various cities.

There is a market for weapons right here in North America, should I use that as justification to sell them?

I like to watch anime and read manga that's it. The whole dress like your hero and wear tights when you weigh 250 pounds is not my kind of thing.

Bravo22, I'm not trying to justify it here, I'm just saying that's the way it is. To refuse it is to avoid looking at reality. Nowadays, only very few care about the right or wrongdoing following a set of values.

If there is someone who wants to buy a weapon (may it be guns or swords), there will be someone to sell. It is an awful thing but it is true. Say you want to buy a human eye on a stick to complete your artwork collection on 'human's genetics and the harsh world', I am pretty sure that you will find someone to sell it to you.

I was more shocked by the way the guy handled the sword because what makes the difference between a martial artist who learns about the sword and a backyard (not the only difference, don't get me wrong) is the educative approach of the the sword. The former learns and gets educated about the sword, the latter just waves it around trying to look cool. It is that education that makes a big difference. But no one can stop stupid people to do stupid stuff (e.g. that guy on the video).

What I'm trying to say is that I agree with you on the fact that having both buyers and sellers makes it right to sell and buy weapons, yet there are buyers and there are sellers, only officer John McLane can probably do something about it...
