Hi everyone,

after playing Kendo for 1,5 years I'll soon participate in my first Kendo Tourney. It will only be an internal tourney with my clubmates, nevertheless I want your advices and tips how you are preparing for tournaments or if you have some kind of strategy/concept in jigeiko in general. Every help would be appreciated :)

I completely disagree with Yowai
Just remember what ur sensei has told u, focus on a stable and calm mental condition, focus on doing the right thing instead of doing the easier thing (my opinion).
it's definitely good to win and u should try hard to win, but u should not be afraid of loosing as well, if u make a mistake then u should positively face the consequences instead of trying to avoid it.

Just do kendo like you normally would. picture yourself in your dojo, (relax) and give it all you've got. (that's how I do it anyways)

Whats wrong with playing? Most people use "play" when they talk to me. Lots of people here have been doing kendo since they were kids and they sorta relate it back to playing.

As for your first tournament. Its not the first tournament you should put all your focus on. You should try to be at every one. As for your mindset, just remember and apply what you learned in practice. Of course you won't remember everything and lots of things won't be perfect once you get on the court, but the more you get out there, the more you learn.

Lastly, as my sensei says it.. "We don't come into a tournament to lose." However, he also says that we should try to learn from the mistakes that we made to become better for the next one. (hence the reason we should try to attend as many tournaments as possible)

You can lose your shiai and still win.
Winning and losing aren't really important as long as you give it all you have

I remember when I went to my first tournament it was alright I did'nt participate because the style I use is not allowed. I was very depressed when they told me that I could'nt use it, I guess family sword styles are not allowed sigh!!! for the Zangetsu clan's style.
