Currently there are 15 women entered from PNKF. Teams from NCKF, BCKF, SEUSKF, GNEUSKF, and Vancouver BC. None from SCKF or SCKO.

SCKF now has 4 women entered and Rika Uto is heading up the delagation. Regarding borrowing people I think you better run that by the tournament management before you make any arrangements. There are now 19 PNKF women entered. Nancy you and Sawayama are entering as part of the PNKF Team, not as individuals.

What's the women's taikai going to be like, Marsten-sensei? Could you describe it a bit please?

Team tournament of basically Federations teams. Nominally two teams of 5 individuals with two alternates per team per federation. Minimum of 3 people per team. Teams are in two pools and the top two teams of each pool go on to the medal rounds. PNKF and NCKF are seeded in opposite pools as they finished 1st and 2nd respectively at the last tournament. Pool A1 vs Pool B2 and B1 vs A2 in the semi-final. Winning teams of the semi meet for the championship. After the team event will be an individuals single elimination event amongst all the team entrants. The individuals will be in two groups of approximately 24 competitors with the winner of court A against the winner of court B for the final championship match. PNKF plans to have the third tournament in 2007 which is the year before nationals and the year after worlds. BTW you need to contact me at jmarsten@hotmail.com about team practice.

Not sure why you thought that. I'm the PNKF coach and PNKF hasn't decided our teams yet.
If you have five Southern Cal people why would you be asking for a PNKF person for the team. Currently there is one from OCB and 3 from Gardena JCI and there is a possible fifth.
Some of the other federations that are flying in have extra team members and I would rather someone who has spent the extra cash to get here be put on a team then someone who lives here and didn't have to travel.

BTW regarding taking home the trophy. I sincerely regret that PNKF didn't send that old Japanese Counsul Generals trophy home with you guys. I am sure it would have come back in pieces and we could have made(giri) you replace it. That would have been great, free replacement cause of course you would have been responsible. You dodged a bullet on that one.

So Jamie you have the easy part done, the talking, November will tell the tale. Perhaps a new rivalry will be born to make this even more exciting.

tamura was a sckf prodigy. She was one of the first girls in the sckf to regularly place in the kyu division. She faded after she got 2 dan. I am glad that she is back! She works hard and the revival of her dojo must be helping her along. She is thought to be a tougher match then most of the guys her age. glad to hear that she showed everyone our sckf pride!

Could be , but she didn't do well in the team portion at PNKF. She really just got better and better later in the individuals. Just returning from summer in Japan can really throw your body clock off. Team USA Women thought she really improved over where she was last year. Team goes first and individuals is an add on in this tournament. I think we will have an even bigger turnout next time in 2007 with several more teams entered. :)

It was a great taikai ^_^. Thanks for the taikai, Marsten-sensei. I definately learned a lot and walked away heavily inspired. Makes me want to practice a lot harder now after I saw a lot of good matches. It was so clean =). Haha I think Kathy is planning to practice 5 days a week now =P. Anyway,Tamura is definately really good. Congrats to her.

Yup, there's hope for everyone if I can get one LOL. Seriously =). Now go get one, Alex! Pressure is on now, man =P.

Marsten-Sensei,
The taikai was probably the best I've ever been to and I really enjoyed myself. Hopefully next time my team will show up, but thanks for adopting me for the week.

P.S. The party was a blast!

Great photos! I'm glad Huang sensei did so well ( or not so good, I'm not sure how good she is, very nice though :) ) I'm glad we won all around too, sounded like a good taikai.
