Hi everyone!

I'm courious, is there a jodo dojo in Kokkola?
Does anyone know anything?

I hope I will be an erasmus student there, and I'd like to go to a dojo if its possible.
I'm also interested in a kyudo dojo too.

If you have any information please share!

Thanks!

Hi,

Under Finnish Kendo Association, we have several clubs around Finland where people can practise Jodo. There are small Kendo club in Kokkola but currently there are not any Jodokas in Kokkola.

However, http://www.kendoliitto.net/ you can find some more information about jodo situations and contact persons in Finland.

Hi Feldin,

when are You coming to Finland? I'm sorry to say there is no jodo dojo in Kokkola. About 200 km to north, there is Oulu kendo club - www.hokufuu.com. There is a few jodoka. Oulu has also a kyudo club. Just 120 km south from Kokkola there is a kyudo club in Lapua. For contact search Finnish kyudo federations web-page: http://www.kolumbus.fi/fikyfe/

Small jodo group with competent instructor is in Ryutokai, Jyväskylä some 250 km to south-east from Kokkola. For contact search Ryutokai’s web page: http://users.jyu.fi/~tjtakala/ryutokai/

What is Your level in jodo? I just thought if there is people in Kokkola interested in jodo but they just lack a leader. Could You be their instructor and teach basics of jodo? If You are willing and able, I could ask from Kokkola kendo club if they are interested.

There will be jodo seminars in southern Finland – Helsinki, Pori, Turku – You might be interested to participate.

I practiced kendo, but my knee couldn't keep up... :(
Maybe I'll check them just to see some action :)

Hi AMikko!

If everithing goes right I'm going to be in finnland from 27th of August.
For minimum half a year. Maybe a whole year.
I'm shodan in jodo, I wanted to go for nidan in may in Villingen, but I have no money for the tour, so maybe next year.
I'm practicing in Shinbukan dojo, in Hungary. (www.shinbukan.hu if you're interested.)
I can teach the basics I presume, but it depends, if my sensei allows it to me, and if he thinks I can do it.
If they are interested I'll ask my sensei if it's ok.

Good to hear there are dojos "near". But I dont really know the tour fares there. How much does a there and back tour cost to these cities?
Maybe once a month I can go to one of them...

Now I can think of the transfer methods of my yumi and other stuff :)
I'll check out the seminars too!
Thanks for the info!

Any news AMikko?

Where can i find info about these jodo camps?
Maybe its more reasonable to go to the camps, then travel for one training.

As far as I know, the kyudo clubs in Oulu and Lapua are not operating at the present - at least their members (if there is any left) never participate to the seminars organized by Finnish Kyudo Federation, nor have I heard them to participate EKF seminars either. Probably there might be some private practitioners but you should find them out beforehand and also verify if you can participate their training (probably on makiwara). As there is no contact information on the above page, you might want to ask from these addresses if they know the people in Oulu and Kokkola:
* http://yosaiki.tripod.com/yhteystiedot.html
* http://www.kolumbus.fi/hikari/hallitus.html

Most of the people in Finland shoot according Heki-ryu Insai-ha, but that should not be problem for you since you come from Hungary (was it not so?)

Depending on the airline company you are going to use, you might need to pay for the freight of your yumi: Finnair 120€, Lufthansa 170€ (one direction only) - at least those are their official rates. However, they might not charge these sums when they see how light the bow is (just returned from EKF 2009 and from Finland to Germany yumi freight costed 35€ and nothing to back).

My present Iaido group has Jodo practice going on in the same gymnasium,
the Iai teacher saying Jo using arms and legs a lot, is good. My question is, especially for people with knee/leg problems, can one strengthen their Kendo
via Iai, Jo and Kyudo?

Btw. If you are coming Finland to study, you should have student fee for every bus and train ticket! Ask more information for your schools office!

I think yes. Its a different approach. But for iaido im sure its good to learn jodo. For kendo, I think it can help. But the knee problems(i have it too) are problems in kendo. Not in jodo.

Ok.
So, thanks to you, I get to be in contact with the local kendo club.
They had a rough time nowadays, and they were interested in learning jodo.
So, we started a jodo course. There is 2 people who are regularly attending the trainings. We tried to get more people in, but noone came.
They are learning fast.
Some time, and they will be good :)

An interesting statistic, the Finnish Kendo fed, submitted that they have 9% of their Kendo, Iai & Jo federation down as practicing Jodo...(mind you they have 80% of that figure down as Kendo) So good luck, all the best things in life start small :normal:
