Over 40 Kendo Competition name

Hi, Does anyone have a suggestion (nice one) for a name to give a Kendo Championship for kendo players who are over 40 yrs old?

Richard, Thought there was a category created last time for Australian National champianship ??? I think they call it Veteran category ....... So maybe think somewhere along this line ?
But then, if you want to call something else like... "Oldies category" ..... :P

How about seniors? Not as in senior citizen, but as in kendou seniors. If you're over 40, you've probably been studying for a while, and you're technically seniors in at least one of your dojos? It's a little campy, but it might get a laugh or two.

then again, it sounds better than 'Wheezy Old Farts' division. Or would that be the over 60 section?

In Belgium we have such kind of competition... They called this "Hanatare Kôzo Trophy"... related to a story about a young boy... The particular thing is that the referees for this competition are less than 40 years but also "high" ranked (5th or 6th dan, for the moment)...

Kenshin, maybe this is my way of flirting, or maybe it's all part of the grand plot to destroy your mind that I started when you were merely 6 years old. Am I kidding? Who knows.

On a more serious note, Veterans Division is still a good suggestion. What about Heiwa (Happy)? Ok, now i'm just being silly. Just look up a Japanese word with an auspicious meaning, like "Sage" or "Wise" or "Elder" and use that. Just don't use "Ojiisan".

How about "Drunken Masters Division"? Ok, that's another bad suggestion too.

Getting back to the subject you could call it something like Nenchu Taikai (Middle aged).

But Veterans Taikai sounds just great. The word veteran is part of the Japanese vocabulary meaning someone with age and experience.

As a 55 year old with a few years of Kendo behind me I don't think the participants would be too please if you used the word oldies. You could end up facing one of them and have an interesting jigeiko followed by a rather long kakarigeiko!

You will find that Mingshi has already made this point, you should also cheak the time of when the post was made, it would make things a lot easier, i can understand that you are trying to be a hero...but i have this feeling that these types of posts are gonna be popping up from now because everyone one wants to become a hero...but just to clarify things Mingshi has already made this point...i guess it goes to show some people don't cheak the posts properly.

And as suggested by Hyaku, the participants had after the warming up a good time with the young one's by playing jigeiko for one more hour...finishing by butsukarigeiko (ai-uchi men kakarigeiko)...
