My name is Will, and for some time now I have been interested in learning the art of Kendo. However, living in Louisville, Ky my quest in seeking to learn the art has often turned up nothing. If anyone knows of a dojo around Louisville that trains willing students in the art of kendo, kenjutsu, or iaido then please inform this lost seeker. Many thanks.

Try going to www.asukf.com (http://www.asukf.com) this is the All US Kendo web site. You should be able to find a dojo listing. This should help you out.

As far as I know, There is no Kendo club in Louisville right now. Right now the closest we have been able to find is one right outside of Lexington and one in Covington. The one in Lexington only takes new students two months out of the year which unfortunately I believe are October and May. There is also one in Covington on Sunday mornings but I don't know anything as far as price goes but once you join one you can cross-train for free since they both belong to the same federation. There is a couple of people who have contacted one of the people I train with (Morpheus on ths board) about maybe setting up a Kendo club in Louisville if we can get enough bodies but I don't think there's anything definite yet. When there is I'll try and let you know.

I am not WRONG! I'm never WRONG! Ask anyone! I'm never WRONG!!!!!
How can I be wrong? Being published on the internet makes me right! The internet would never allow something false to be displayed to so many people! Nothing on the internet could be wrong!
Now take back your slanderous remark sir before I take the time to find my dueling glove and clean my pistols... also used in dueling.
Back on topic...
I pointed him to the old website so that he could avoid the oh-so-annoying flash presentation at the new site. Also, I happened to have the link handy.
Yeah, seek out morpheus. He will show you the way. And remember: There is no spoon...

Thank you for your reply to my S.O.S. I am interested in knowing when a Louisville Kendo Dojo will be started so please keep me posted. Also what exactly is the Ronin Bushido Karate Club? Bushido is what I am truly interested in learning.

Since you ask, I plagarized this from our website(www.roninbushido.com):
"Sensei Ronald G. Boyd founded the Ronin Bushido Karate Club in 1979, emphasizing the internal art of Aikido. Sensei Boyd studied Aikido under Sensei Richard Rood, who studied under O’Sensei, Morihei Ueshiba. The club is honored to have such a direct and true line to the Founder of Aikido.
Ronin, translates as a “masterless warrior”. Samurai sworn to no master were called Ronin.
Bushido translates as the “code of the warrior”. Samurai warriors were taught to live their lives according the principles set forth in this code. The basic tenets of this code are Loyalty, Integrity, Charity, Sincerity, Honor, Bravery, and Courtesy.
The club strives to promote the growth of Aikido. Emphasis is placed on the “internal” strength of each individual through personal growth. Each person’s path is unique, measured from where they are, and how far they have come.
O'Sensei, Morihei Ueshiba, died on April 26, 1969. He had one last moment with his students and his final words of instruction were: “Aikido is for the entire world. It is not for selfish or destructive purposes. Train unceasingly for the welfare of all.”
It is with this basis, the idea of a warrior true to self and sworn to no master, one who lives according to a the code of the warrior, and one who follows through with the final instructions of O’Sensei, that we live and train as members of Ronin Bushido."
We have new classes starting Saturdays at 8:30 AM and Tuesdays at 6:00 PM

Midnight Dragon,
If you are interested in bushido and iaido (mentioned in your first post), I would suggest you also check out Bluegrass Budokai in Winchester. They offer iaido, in addition to aikido and judo. They present a strong understanding of bushido as well. Here is a link to their site:

Best of luck in your pursuit and study.

You do know this was a 5 year old thread right?

That and I'm not sure they are AUSKF affiliated, there's no mention of it on their site and I don't see it on the AUSKF website.

Yes, I was well aware of it's age. The information might assist someone else looking at this thread.
BGBK is not AUSKF affiliated because they do not teach kendo. I referred the poster to that organization because of iaido, which was mentioned in the origianl post.

Iaido is AUSKF as well as kendo. There are other threads on this if you do a search as well as the differences of affiliated dojos and non affiliated dojos.

Iaido is AUSKF as well as kendo.
Only a very little bit of seitei iaido. The dojo that the fellow mentioned is an MSR iaido study group under the San Shin Kai, a very well known and respected organization headed in the U.S. by Roger Wehrhahn.
However, I do agree with you that five year old threads should not be resurrected. :)

Did I violate some code of conduct? Is there a breach of ettiquette I have committed? I was simply responding to someone's question. Your comments seem almost condescending, as if it is your job to reprimand me. I do not understand.

It is usually considered bad netiquette to resurrect very old threads.
