I am curious how many people do kendo, then have kids who also grow up to do kendo? I know a lot of people who have said if they ever have kids they would like them to do kendo, and from what I've seen the really little kids always think it is fun. But how often do the kids get older and keep at it? Is it just an idealistic wish that we all have, or is it a good chance? For sure it depends on the kid, but I don't know that many people doing kendo who have kids older than about 5, so I am just curious. Looking in the photo thread before there are a few, and it is really cute

I have a seven year old that has expressed an interest in kendo, she is slated to start in September. I think it's like anything else though if the kids are surrounded by their piers they're more apt to stick with it, if they are surrounded by adults then they probably don't have much of a chance. Around here there are very few clubs that take young children and even the ones that do have a very small population of kids. Mine has done karate for two and a half years and part of the reason she's stuck with it is they (the dojo) cater to young kids and make learning sort of a game. I don't get the feeling that kendo will be like that for her so while I'm happy she wants to try I'm not sure how long she'll stick with it, but one can hope.

Our dojo just started doing a seperate day ofr the little ones. So for the kids we do a Saturday morning practice, and usually theres about half a dozn or so that make it out.

Most of them are kids of club members, and ya it's awesome to pass that love of Kendo along. I can't wait till our's is old enough to start, she comes to the dojo with mum the odd time and seems to like watching daddy get clobbered.... :)

Senseis family is a Kendo family, he and his wife started doing Kendo back in the day in Toronto, his son and daughter grew up doing Kendo and now his grandkids do Kendo.
