Hey all, it's been a while since I posted.

Since moving up here to Thunder Bay, I've been separated from the JCCCCC, and haven't been able to find a kendo team up here *sadface*

I did find a place run by some fellow named Eric Tribe, who apparently teaches some martial arts. So, I guess I'm dropping the art of swinging a bamboo stick, to learn Jodo..... the art of swinging a hickory stick.

Btw, has anyone have a bio on Mr Tribe? the class rules on his website seem fairly clear with little nonsense.

Well let's see, started iaido and Jodo in the late '80s or early '90s in Guelph (you'd have to ask him), is due to test for 6dan iaido and 5dan jodo. Is just now likely on a plane from Toronto where he was attending the Jodo seminar at Ryerson with Shiiya sensei and Arai sensei.

One of the best at both arts, in fact quite likely better than I am at both but don't tell him that.

I'll be up there next month to do an iaido seminar with Ohmi sensei so there will be a couple of us 7dan up there. http://my.tbaytel.net/etribe/Seminars.html

Excellent! Welcome to the Jodo gang! :D
Our numbers are growing and soon we'll take over the martial arts world!
*evil laughter*

From the JCCC to training under a good teacher in Jodo and Iaido, you're one lucky bastard unless you're really not interested in broadening your MA perspective that is.

Speaking of staves, I got bored after class today and took a walk in the woods. I did manage to fell a poplar and carve a shoulder high walking stick, about two inches thick. I then filed it down smooth and put a couple screws in the bottom to protect the wood.

the interesting part? I cut down the friggen tree with my pocketknife! same goes for all the other work involved.

I'd love to try Jodo, but to my knowledge there is no one who teaches it here in Korea.
