Shinai as Lightsabre

Time for a silly thread.

I was thinking (as I often do) that shinai actually ressemble lightsabres much more than say a katana would. I mean, shinai are straight, light in weight, and make a cool sound when they hit. Just like lightsabres!

So, would kendo be the best way to practice jedi-dou? Should the Jedi people in Star Wars look more like Miyazaki and less like All-US Karate Championship contestants (sponsored by Paul Mitchell hair-care products)?

What do we do in kendo? We aim for the vital areas while trying to gain a maximum amount of efficiency: no useless motions. People say that kendo is just whacking or tagging people with shinai, we don't know how to cut properly. Who cares?? With lightsbres all you need is a good tag on someone and VOILÀ! Instant flesh wound! Tap someone on the head quickly and there you go! Rapid action lobotomy!

Some kendo techniques don't work with curved blades... makiotoshi-kote anyone? But they would work splendidly against a lightsabre...

So what do you, the teeming masses, think of this?

Could you take out Obi-wan in an instant? Or would you lose to the twirling, jumping, jedi fairies?

Im not a expert at starwars , but dont Jedis see into the future ? , they are fast coz they know whats gonna happn ? , so basicly when we would go for men they would know this in advance .

It wouldent be a fair fight would it ? =)

as for the lightsabres... i read in a book that lightsabres would be very difficult to handle because its blade is made of revolving laser, so it would be like holding a big gyroscope, it would try to stap up straight... compared to a shinai, it would be like having a 10kg weight at the bottom... good for a strong chudan no kamae though...

i say the jedi wins... especially if they take out a blaster... but with the lightsabre they would win, because they would hold the lightsabre in one hand, then use force pull to take the kendoka's shinai, then to nito-jedi ryu... and beat out ass...

im not an expert either... for i am only a padawan... but in my experience, i have never been able to see the future...

(my experience would be 3 months of jedi outcast)

well it is also said that the blade of the lightsabers weights nothing. so it would be are to track is motion if you can't see it. not killing yourself with one would be hard.

As a western fencer as well, I can vouch that the lightsabre fighting sequences more closely resemble a western form than an eastern, though the fight coordinators obviously drew on several sources (Shao Lin Wushu staff is apparent for one aspect)

Technically you can counter a Harai-waza by "switching yours off"...

Jedis can get back on their feet way faster when they get knocked down on the floor.

It is against the regulations to use Count Dooko's lightsabre, nor Nito in Darth Maul's style.

Oh please... Eiga's tsuki would drop any Jedi while they're still busy posing for the cameras ("My name is Qi-gon Jin and I'm so cool with my beard and accent and... oh nuts, that dude just cut my wrist off..."). They're all fairies... ever see a Jedi look even moderately interested in a woman? Except for Annakin of course... but that did not have good results now did it? Jedi prance around like ballerinas or worse, figure skaters... less prancing, more efficient killing please.

Jedi twirls light saber like idiot... Eiga drops him by sticking his shinai in through his trachia and back out through his spine... End of story. Eiga-senshu wins.

I had almost forgotten about Mingshi's weird Yoda fetish...

Yoda would necessitate the practice of "sune" (you know, the naginata kind). I never thought I'd need a lightsabre against Yoda, I figured I'd just kick him accross the room at the right time. :D

how can eiga possible see his neck through all that?
and also, im pretty sure that his trachia is smaller than a shinai...
