Just like every other "out of town" tournament this year and next, I'm not sure if I can make it. I'd like to come down though.. I have friends down there. If I do, I'll be in the 1-3dan div and will probably have my ass handed to me. haha. Is it gonna be held at Torrance again?

Man, I'm missing out on all these cool tourneys.. I can't go since I have a midterm that same week. Plus my classes require a lot of time. I'm also pondering a Ph.D. in addition to a M.S. degree so studying comes first now a days. Last time I was there was y2k1 and I had a great time there..

Hi John,
In reading your profile, I notice that you're out in Chicago, Illinois. If this is true, the North/South Tournament is held in Southern California this year (the tournament rotates between Northern and Southern California each year). Also, only members of the Southern California and Northern California Kendo Federations (SCKF and NCKF) are allowed to participate. Members from other regional kendo federations may participate as well, but usually by invitation or permission from the SCKF or NCKF and All U.S. Kendo Federation (AUSKF). If your dojo is a member of the AUSKF, your members should be allowed to participate in any AUSKF sanctioned tournament.
I would ask your sensei / head instructors and senior students if your dojo/ dojang belongs to the AUSKF and how it goes about participating in tournaments.

I was not going to be in it, but Shikai sensei put my name in anyways. I was going to go out that day too...oh well atleast its 4 dan and above, and its in so cal. I am pretty darn sick of judges that are not used to kaishi waza and calling wakare. I love my judges that take all the side-ways shots, cheap hansoku, and fingertip kote. having the home court adv. is nice!!!!!

Sorry I don't think they'll have me do shinpan cause I'm still a 3-dan and will always be a 3-dan. I think they only have us do shinpan when there aren't enough 4-dan, but I think there are plenty of 4-dan now. Plus, I don't think they would want a guy wearing a white keikogi and polyester hakama doing shinpan. Hahahahah. That's my traditional kendo wear. You can't go wrong with white keikogi and polyster hakama.

Nice tournament all in all. I sucked in kojin, but I did better on dantai. But, I wish our teams won. Good matches overall and some iffy calls. But that is the premise of every tournament, right? haha
Nice meeting all y'all from the South. Moocow, tenken, inouye02, honda and misterkurukuru. Saw French and hongs again. Saw Hongs' blonde Japanese kid (well the pics he carried around). A least that saves money in blonde hair dye later when he grows up to be a teenager. LOL LOL :D How does Hongs do it? Blonde genes are recessive are they not?

I didn't get to see the individual competition, but I saw your team match. I was impressed. Hahah, I kept on thinking Kote-Men! Kote-Men to myself, and you did it and you scored.
As for the tournament itself, I think they shouldn't divide the division in half by age, at least for the 3-dan 4-dan group. They should just mix everyone together, or make it two complete groups.

Thanks all for your comments. I was sorta subbed in at the last second since one of our guys had to leave for school if im not mistaken. I was watching a vid of myself and I still looked slow. Oh ya mr kurukuru, one of our guys took a video of you playing in the team match. You jumped about 1 or 2 feet off the ground at one point. Oh well, its back to practice in Salinas over the weekend. I'm sorta looking forward to it, but with school, I'm gonna have NO Friday night! NONE! Gone! haha.
GBN, usually the SCKF posts something on their site or you can look at Mr. Tom Bolling's newsletters at the PNKF website for info. Here is what I remember. Please if I am wrong, somebody correct me.
Yudansha team - SCKF
Kodansha team - SCKF
Womens team - SCKF
Youth team - NCKF
5dan and up - 1st - Chris Yang
2nd - Jimmy Eitoku
I can't remember anything else really. I was so disappointed after the individuals that I sorta went and thought to myself a bit.

the tournament was fun! Samurai999 kicked the crap out of one of our "young" sckf "stars". Samurai made brown chan look like a 6kyu! he scored two quick points on the guy that won his division. it just goes to show you that mixing the tournament up would have been better then doing it by age. Samurai999 could have been the best 1-2 dan in California!!There were a lot of iffy calls...but north/south is always like that. its alllllll about homecourt. anyhoo it was nice to see samurai999 in action. He is pretty good and i think that all of us there know this now

Good thing we'll have another chance to determine the best in California when we have the all California championships this fall.
Hopefully that tournament won't have the iffy calls. Does anyone know any other details for the All California Championships? like, divisions, how the team matches are done (dojo vs dojo or nckf vs sckf vs scko vs cckf)? etc
