Hello,

A former training partner of mine told me that he used to practice Shin-Kendo and he described it as "Kendo with live blades." I cannot imagine how this could possibly be safe, and I was wondering if anyone else has any experience with this art. I know shinken in iaido means an edged blade, so I'm guessing its more like iai and less like kendo?

More like kenjutsu and battojutsu roled into one, than "kendo". Founded by Obata Toshishiro, they practice aikijujutsu, kenjutsu, and cutting techniques with live blades (tameshigiri or on bamboo, NOT on each other). Forgive my weak explanation as I am not that familiar with it. I used to practice naginata with one the shinkendo sensei in So. Cal.; (Nathan Scott) very good guy.
You can read more about it on the e-bodu forum or check out their website: www.shinkendo.com

Sorry for double post...
I just looked at one of their sites and I guess the aikijutsu portion is seperate from "shinkendo". They just offer that as well.
