I read an article some time ago by an expert in Tameshigiri were he recommeded a longer Tsuka, he stated the Samurai of old, mainly had swords with longer Tsuka, and that for better balance and cutting ability he thought longer was better than shorter.

What I didnt glean form the article was were he situated his hands. As most recommendations say the left hand (if one is right handed) should be the width of one finger behind the right hand.
Now taking the average size hand this leaves a far amount of Tsuka below the left hand exposed?
Some other recommendations suggest the left hand should be close to or touching the Tsukagashira, this would leave a large gap between the hands?

Does anyone useing a large tsuka have any thoughts on this matter.
