Hey everyone! I'm a member of my university's Kendo Club, which is almost a brand new baby..only opened last semester, so we're very low on cash/campus recognition. What are some ways you guys would suggest to have a fundraiser, while also possibly gaining recognition on campus? I read about an 1000 strike kendo challenge somewhere, but I'm not sure if that should be the *first* fundraiser..maybe after people know we're around more..
Any suggestions are welcome! I was thinking since most of the kendo club are fans of japanese culture and anime, perhaps doing origami of kendoka..hmm. But I can't find any patterns. :)
Thanks guys!

Which university are you in? Is there a Japanese community in town?

if you are on campus, typically the college will provide you with such avenues. At state IM sports clubs are given the opportunity to usher at games and the like with the cash going towards the club. As for advertising, don't they have a club or sports club fair for incoming freshman? Do you have a student union? Do they provide grants to clubs for equipment or trips? Failing all these you can do what some of my business major friends did once yearly, the all campus rager, 15 bucks at the door and the line forms to the left. They managed to pay their rent for the year with one kegger... you just have to have someone who is willing to spend a night in jail when things go south.

yepp - why not go for kendo swordsman (http://origami.gr.jp/~hojyo/104kendo.html) by the famous Hojyo Takashi.... after that folding Hakama will be a piece of cake!
