If theres anybody who can teach Iaido online via AIM that would be great. I may be 14 but I'm serious when it comes to swordsmanship.

Sorry, no. As a student and an instructor, I can tell you quite plainly that there is absolutely no alternative to hands-on instruction in-person. Anything less is a waste of time and energy. You are much better off waiting until such time as you have access to a qualified instructor.

Try asking either here or on E-Budo.com for a teacher in your area. It may surprise you how close they are...

Give the guy a break. At least he's trying. He's still very young and I know how frustrating it can be wanting to train at that age as most dojos require you to be atleast 18. Maybe it would be a good idea to do some ju jitsu for a few years or something like that. He could even do some pre-study. There are books he can read about the technical side of the katana that would be good to know. Also there is tons of history. I guess he could even memorise the different kata's without actually doing them. Maybe i'm asking too much, haha

^^x thanks for the support. Anyways.. well.. I am trying.. Well, I actually do know a place that teaches Ju-Jitsu really close... Also, if I ask my martial arts instructor, maybe he could arrange something for me of the sort. I can't really afford to go to 2 dojos right now because my karate lessons are over $150 a month, but they're really great. ^^x' ehe.. anyways.. well to me thats expensive (IM ONLY 14!! REMEMBER!!! AHH! lol) *shrugs* but I'm trying to see if I can do anything to learn it. I'm waiting for a few Iaido books to come in stock at a bookstore near me, and also when I get more money I can probobly buy books about it.. lol

$150 a month?! Glad i'm not doing karate. Iaido where I am costs £10 membership fee and then £3 a lesson (thats about $20 and $5). Its just if you want decent hakama and Iaito when it gets expensive. But it doesn't have to be and there is usally a way.
Anyway, you sound like a good student so i'm sure you be fine. Good luck, train hard.

I've already got a white hakam.. it was $71.. ^^x' ehe.. it was part of my kenshin costume but I'll also use it for kendo.. *shrugs* unless I get a black one too. heh. anyways.. hm.. well.. if somebody taught me Iaido online.. I might be able to understand a few concepts and prepare for learning it, and also maybe know how to do some basic practices.. *shrugs* lol.

To get the idear:
http://www.geocities.com/nobaradojo/Seitei.htm
It shows all Iaido kata's. Never the less, proper training from a qualified instructor is essential. The pictures don't show all the things you have to keep in mind. You can't always access this site due to the heavy traffic, you wanna save the pages/pictures you get in a word document or something.

It shows all the Iaido kata? I suspect you meant that it shows all of the Zen Ken Ren Seitei kata. There's a LOT more to Iai than Seitei.

The Kampai Budokai site is my favourite to show people
http://www.geocities.com/anjinsan.geo/
as it has nice coverage of several koryu.

2 points:
First of all you just cannot learn iaido online! Of course you can learn ABOUT it, including detailed desciptions of kata, variations, video material etc. ; but not learn iai itself.
Secondly, you guys resurrected an 8-month inactive thread which I think didn't really worth it. (just my humble opinion :P)

I'm been around the martial arts for quite a while, but I'm fairly new to Iai. If there is one thing I have found it that no matter how detailed the video nothing, I mean NOTHING is better than having your Sensei right in front of you.
I once thought that I was picky about how my students performed thier karate, it's nothing compaired to how my Sensei makes sure I do my Iai to his expectations. It is so exacting, no video would help.
As it's been said before, do yourself a big favor and find a good dojo, you won't regret it.
Good Luck,
Ronin
