This is one of the most coherent and complete layman's introductions to iaido that I've seen.

I find the series interesting (watched kendo and iaido instalments) but i dislike the host, as somehow his character does not harmonize with the arts.
Probably it's just me...

The host is a little bit goofy at times, but I reckon that's the role he was given -- that is, the complete newb approaching the art for the first time. But to his credit, he's always respectful and curious.

Pettas I actually like him although somewhat goofy. I can imagine there is alot of funny behind the scenes stuff maybe his guest would portray to him that they wouldn't another host. I'm assuming based on the short biography and that I don't see a translator standing by him the whole show that he has a good proficiency in Japanese language. Based on him leaving to train in Japan at the age of 16 then getting permission at age 18 to do a living-in student training program for 1000 days. Kyokushin Karate is full contact and stand up style. Being the first non-Japanese to complete that program I'm sure he got some extra training if you know what I mean. Pettas I see has also had some other apperances in Japanese films and tv so he is an easy choice for a host by the producers of the show. Although the show is entirely different I'm glad they didn't put a Jimmy Smith, Doug Anderson, Jason Chambers or Bill Duff as the host. Alternatively they could of easily gone with a faceless narrator you never see. I'm curious to see if they do Sumo in the future and if Pettas locks up with Asashoryu. Sooner are later you know they are going to probably do the no brainer and do Karate.

I really enjoyed watching all of these. Very good explanation for both beginners and advanced students.
Thanks for the find!
