I'm interested in taking up kendo and have been for some time now and was wondering what is required in order to get started? I have no previous training whatsoever and need to learn from the ground up. Also, I'll be attending a local junior college until I get my general education requirements to transfer to UC Irvine so, I was wondering if a large change in distance would be a big deal after I started my training? My main concern is finding a dojo that is somewhat nearby and can help me out. Also, where can I get equipment?

A little about me: I will be 18 in March, a high school senior (almost graduated), and I am from the Sacramento, CA area.

Thanks

Dennis probably sent you information about dojos in the Sacramento area, of which I think there is one -- he's the expert -- and many in Orange County. More broadly, and in case you don't know how to use the personal message feature, which took me a month to figure out even existed:

You don't need equipment at first. Just google "Kendo Sacramento", go to the website, find the dojo near your location, and write them emails or call introducing yourself and asking when they accept beginners. Then start. Two years of comm. college will get you plenty fair enough down the kendo-road to make a transition near UCI favorable.

Good luck!

PS: The very top of your screen has "notifications" tab -- click that, it will open your mailbox so you can see Dennis's email.

There's actually two...and I'm no expert...just a little geographically inclined. ;)
