The bars refer to what's called reputation. When someone makes a post that you believe contributes to the forum, you add reputation to that user, when someone detracts from the forum, users can detract points from the user's reputation. Red bars mean that your rep is in the negatives, meaning you've irritated people. I would assume people like myself don't take kindly to spamming up a forum to get an avatar (which will get you banned eventually I'm sure) and lowered your rep.

Judging from all of the negative reputation you've managed to amass, it seems that you've definitely gotten off on the wrong foot here. I'll try and help you out a little bit.
First, this is an adult forum that is populated by serious practitioners of the Japanese sword arts. By far most are kendoka, but there are a number of iaido and koryu folks. This means that most of the stuff that is "cool" on the kids forums will get you slammed here. Second, you've not actually put anything about yourself in your profile. Namely, where do you practice kendo, and how long have you been practicing. This leaves people wondering if you're just another irritating kid spamming the forum because he's bored on spring break. Third, try and use proper spelling and punctuation. It makes your messages easier to read, and reflects on you as a person.
