i got this idea from another thread, but what kind of victory dances would you like to see in kendo? my fav. is the darius miles, Q. richardson fists to the head thing. its not really a dance, but its kool! There is also busting the sharpie out of your tare, kote, or tabi! victory dances are kool. I see a lot of "guts" poses. no showing breasts please ala j.jackson and justin timberlake. ohh backspins the worm and robot dances are kool as well. I saw one guy do a disco dance-travolta thing as he entered the court at a shiai...the funny thing is that he won! this is all in fun so please dont blast this thread with the "there is no place for bust n a groove in kendo!" relax and have fun with this!

Haha I was planning to do a moonwalk after the match is over instead of the usual steps back ^_^. My other dance would be to Sir Mix Alot's "I like big butts"! It would take a brave soul to turn the song out loud, so I can shake my oshiri like a salt-shaker before I step in =P. Remember that conversation we had, Jamie LOL?

Well the SCI does have an official "Haha we kicked your butt" dance. It was taken directly from The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air.

to do our SCI victory dance you need atleast 3 people. We did it at seattle after we won first in the team shiai. I think it was the seattle dojo dudes, but they were getting a kick out of our awesome dance. moocow, tenken, tenken's brother, and I would teach it to the younger generation of the SCI...but they never win anything so they have nothing to dance about. tenken and I are working on the robot dance junbi undo....moocow, you can ask tenken about it! I always wanted to pop lock into sonkyo and to the worm instead of the good old three steps foward.

I'd probably do the kendo version of Tiger Williams' goal celebration! Although i'll probably need rollerblades for it.

Finding a scotsman that likes whisky is like shooting fish in a barrel
best victory dance would deff be to line up a few guys in bogu and do some robot rutine :robot:
small whisky recomendation list: \'o)
Ardbeg 10 year old
Bowmore 12 year old
And coz its a kendo forum , Suntory (japanes whisky)

I don't consider myself a whisky expert but I like my Bushmill's. As far as Suntory whiskey; after trying that junk I knew why I could literally smell a hang over on the trains packed with business-men late at night.

Here's a few I like:
Tallisker
Lagavulin
The Macallan
Oban
Suntory is drinkable if you get the 12 year old, but in no way comparable to a decent malt.
I won't bother posting my opinion of victory dances.

Macallan is a great whiskey, especially the 20 yo (and to keep it in topic, makes a great victory dance).
Brookhaven is ok too.
And you cant really go wrong wiw some of the irish stuff.

I wonder what the shinpans would do if during a team match, after you score a point, you back up to the edge of the court and high five your team mates then come back to the center to kammae.

My wife loves it, but it's a little too ...uhm... medicinal for me. I think Lagavulin should have enough peat for anyone, personally. Definitely not a beginner's whiskey.

Victory dances uh?
Well there is a very popular atlhete now in Japan . This guys does Hammer throwing or something.. Anyway in the Kantou Gakusei Shinjin Tournament (team tournament for new university students in Kantou Area) some guy from our team was doing the throwing hammer movement everytime he would get an ippon!! haha I thought it was quite risky to do that in such a big tournament. Could have easely get a hansoku for that. But i think it was funny! I mean we are still youngm doing these stupid things and being reprimendended for it, is part of learning.
I personaly dont have any personal victory dance. Maybe throw my kote in the air and shoot it as if my Shinai was a shotgun? a la TEMMU SELANE!!!

It's a source of unending mystery to me why so many nihonjin think Black is a good whiskey. Maybe after drinking Suntory it tastes OK, but I think even Ballantyne's 8 year old bar scotch tastes better than Black.

scotch - different tastes, but lafroig and macallan
victory dance - how about holding your shinai straight up and scraming "I have the po-wer-!" like he-man?

Aha... finally a thread that I can contribute to! Lagavulin is the best of the regular single malts in my opinion, unless you count the ridiculously expensive 20+ yr olds.
Ok... I got a pet peeve to release here... everyone here spells whisky with an "e" when referring to a single malt. It's allright to use an "e" when referring to any OTHER kind of whisky, like that awful irish stuff that's only suitable for old ladies and patients recovering from stomach surgery. If you check the labels you will see there is never an "e" in the word "whisky" on a bottle of real single malt. Just FYI. It's a Scottish thing. :-)

Aiii!..JW should never be called a malt whiskey!. Yuck!
Bestest of all single malts: Ardbeg. (Not that well known outside Scotland).
Second choice : MacAllen.

Are there victory dances in kendo? I thought it's against the spirit of kendo to display such emotion?
IIRC, the high school team matches in Japan show a LOT of emotion.
I've done the "Darius Miles", the chest bump (more like clack), and the common pumping of the fist before. But most of the time, I hold my emotions in check. haha.. I never had the popularity or the arrogance to do the "Terrell Owens".
Edit-
I was throwing this thing around in the dojo the other day as a joke, but I thought what it would be like to have introductions with music before the final match. Since one of our memebers is a big time WWE fan. Hongs and French, this should be a no brainer.

man what are you a bunch of soccer players? Actually that is the sport I play the most until recently, so I can think of many goal dances.........
you can do Bebeto's rock the craddle if you know of newly born baby you would like to pay tribute too............
you can turn and act like you are machine gunning your teammates and have them fall down.
If you are Robby Fowler you can find a white line and do your "goal sniffing celebration"
I dont think you can do my classic pull shirt over head to expose t-shirt message, with bogu on...........
Or you could do the Dentist chair, where you lean back and a teammate squirts water in your mouth.
Hey, why not just do some Ray Lewis style dancing, and make everyone think you are insane..........
Personally, I don't really celebrate in soccer when I score, just act like you been there, and you will be there again soon. There is one guy who practices where we do, who always yelling something after he scores a hit that almost sounds like a taunt................ but I don't know.
