View Full Version : Preparation for Shiai?

I`ve searched the forum without really finding a complete answer to this question, only how to focus mentally but not much else.
So how should I prepare for a tournament?
I have three weeks to go.
What kind of training should I do? How many times a week?
When do I stop training before the Shiai to rest?
What kind of food(nutrition) should I eat? Not sushi, I beg you!
I`m just past my first year in Kendo and have recently pushed my training up from three times to four or five times a week, by visiting another Dojo.
Any suggestions would be great.
Cheers!

I had my first shiai recently. I think there's no special preparation to it, just get on the shiaijo and try to show some good kendo.
Your state of mind during a shiai should be the same as during practice, that's all.
Focusing too much on it is not good at all, you'll get stressed about it and won't do a lot of good.

in the shiai mentioned above, i beat shiro, or rather let him hit me once, then i realized it was only a one point shiai... i was planning to let him get a point, then get two points myself to embarass him... didnt work though...

Slightly? :)

Thanks for the tip, but as I said, I looking for suggestions relating to preparations of the body, not the mind.
Something like a sprinter, who tries to time his or hers physical peak at the right time through correct training and build up.
Those of you who competed in major events, like the WKC, how did you go about?
