I also just started, so my list could be a bit wrong...
Men-Suburi - head attack
Kotay-suburi - wrist attack
Doh-suburi - body attack
Tsuki-suburi - throat attack
and everyone's favourite haya-suburi(quick jumping forward/backward while maintaining kamae) which seems to be used more as a warmup, than an actual attack.

Actually the Heya suburi is used build up your ability to close distance quickly and avoid quickly...makes it easier to perform Nuki waza...spelling may be wrong.

just to correct some things, the correct spelling is haya suburi (fast suburi), not heya suburi (room suburi) :) and kote

haya suburi is the one where you swig your shinai jumping forwards and then swinging again while jumping backwards right?

Hi Gundal,
Yes haya-suburi is the jumping one. Check the: Japanese words for beginners thread. It has a whole bunch of websites listed there with all the info you are looking for.
You are at Norwalk right?

basic?
men-cut to head
kote-cut to wrist/forearm
dou-cut to side of body (right or left)
tsuki-thrust to neck
Other stuff (when we warm up)
zenshinkoutai men(sp?)- men with one step forward and men with one step back.
Jouge suguri-Big men swings. All the way back then swing all the way forward.
haya-suburi - "fast" suburi is not just jumping up and down. It is doing men-uchi quickly using the same footwork you'd use doing normal suri-ashi.

Norwalk is a great dojo. And you will be very thankful come summer. *HOT HOT HOT* You're lucky to train with Yamaguchi sensei on a regular basis. I will have to come back and visit someday. Enjoy!

Hi,
You can always ask one of your sensei or sempai before or after practice. They'll be more than willing to help you out. Also, Arnold Strong mentioned tsuki-suburi. Norwalk dojo doesn't employ that type of suburi during practice and tsuki is a strike only performed by advanced kenshi. I should also point out that tsuki can be very dangerous if not done correctly, which is why only the advanced kenshi can utilize this technique.
See you at Norwalk!
