or some other form of construction?

I saw some plastic molded do that was not mounted and it was a solid piece of plastic, wonder if that is the same case with the fiber do.

Hi

No, fiber Do-dai are a single piece of moulded, plastic-like material which is made from reformed paper-fibres. The surface is then lacquered and polished directly.

Yamato do are similar, but made from a special plastic, and in general, they are constructed in a similar way. However, a couple of years ago, leather-covered Yamato Do became available, though they usually have patterns of Tonbo or Sakura, or are made to look like Same-do.

Hi Andy
Thanks for the clarification, very interesting how bogu is made. This explains the large price difference between bamboo and non-bamboo do. The manufacturing process is much more involved for the former.
