Just thought I'd start a thread for anyone to post amazing Kiai found on utube or elsewhere.

Starting with Teramoto's blood chilling "Screaming Eagle" kiai here:

I wish I could sound like that, am still working on my Kiri, it's gone from sounding like the "Knights who said Ni" to an Lion's rwar! lol :p

Anyway, it sounds his kiri is like mocking/laughing at him when he cools down.

I've always liked Sugino sensei's kiai and I'm pretty sure Rott sensei could find work as a foghorn if times got tough.

Thanks for the response! I was hoping to get some new links. When someone asks me what to explain Kendo Kiai I'll be using these as a reference.

This one's been posted before in a different thread but definitely worth mentioning (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8FcQQ3PTRpc). Just don't forget to pick your jaw up off the floor.

Great link!

Should have mentioned this in my first post: all high dan Kendoka have great inspiring kiai: I was looking for examples where it was nice and clear and not drowned out by other shiai/audience noise or low sound quality.
All the links meet that expectation so thanks again for posting.

Simply Awesome.

I'll go so far as to say if anyone who practices Kendo does not try to (or will not) kiai with at least half the vigor in that video....

Then they're all a bunch of nancy boys and should take up scrap-booking.

Be sure to turn the volume up on your speakers for this one.

Btw, I love the way that third guy screams in the video.

Yes, hard to beat the Jigen Ryu for kiai. I love the pure, stark simplicity of their training exercises too like the one in this video and the (signature?) drill of hitting a wooden post with a stick/bokken until it is eventually cut through.

Oh yeah you mean this one right? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UW80aRE99iM&feature=related I saw that in Musashi No Ken too. Wish I could do that everyday for the rest of my life! You'd develop a nice, refined, and powerful cut I bet. I actually need to work on my Do cut and this seems perfect for that.

That was nice how the tides turned all of a sudden. I was surprised since it almost looked like the other Hachi dan would win....
