I don't know if their blades are live, but they are sparring with steel blades of different styles, European, Chinese and Japanese. They claim realistic so they must be going full speed. But if they are, then they should all be dead or missing some fingers, limb or 2. I was unable to view the videos provided cause they're all in like zip format or something like that. Can someone view the videos and see how they are actually moving?

The blades don't appear to be steel, but rather of a padding material with a metalic finish.

To be honest, this reminds me of Sports Chambara...the way they move in the videos is very protective; they operate with a scoring system from what little I gathered from the site....I agree that if the swords were real (live) and they allowed full contact there would be great injury. What confused me was that they give the impression that the blades are live, but elsewhere say that people should not hit certain 'hard' objects so as not to damage the 'blade'. I dont really know what the weapons are made of, or if this is an official club type setup, or...anything really. Interesting site though, thanks for the link. Hopefully someone can shed a little more light on this.

do a search on the net for live role play... and you will probably find a similar breed of weapon weilders.

Admittedly they are trying to base thier experience with the soft swords on realistic combat situations unlike merlin the happy pig who is a 127th level necro-barbarian-thief-priest. :P

I think these are the same guys that post occasionally on swordforum. Unimpressed.

It just don't look real. SO don't worry you don't miss anything much. Just a bunch of guy trying to play with sword. Maybe chambara should be a better comparison

Thanks guys.

I looked through the site more thoroughly and see that the weapons are non edged and appear padded. And based on what you guys see from their videos it doesn't sound impressive.

It might be amusing to watch them spar against these guys. http://www.dogbrothers.com/

If Lance and his Realistic Sparring Weapons team feel they're training the real deal, then they should pit themselves against the Dog Brothers and see where they stand.

I was right, you can see one of them chiming in on an old thread here (http://forums.swordforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=26126&perpage=25&pagenumber=5). By the tone/content of their posts they're a bunch of FRP geeks who are seeking to take their rule ideas into actual sparring. If you think judging a kendo match can be complex, check out some of their ideas.

Man! These guys make me wanna quit kendo, and take up some REAL fighting!

..
But seriously, those DogBrothers guys are ridiculous. I mean, their name is derived from a Conan the Barbarian comic book.

no offense to anyone here - but these guys are.. well...
there are quite a few members in this forum who blamed other members being samurai-wannabes just because they e.g. had a wallhanger (or however this is called) or did another minor "delinquency" - i really couldn't agree with those accusations but i would certainly agree that these hk-guys a r e samurai-knight wannabes.
but these "dog brothers" are even worse. they're just childish IMO. they probably think of themselves as "warriors" - this is just ridiculous - and they are too. some ppl were influenced by "last samurai" and "kill bill" - they were definitely influenced by "fight club". right after the motto: i'm a "real" man.
well, this is just my opinion and this post doesn't mean to be a flame.
