View Full Version : Kendo and Myer Brigs Personality Test

I am always really interested in learning about different personalities. Sometimes people with certain personalities are drawn to certain things more so than others. One rather well known personality test is the Myer Briggs personality test. So I got to wondering what different types of personalities are in the kendo world.

Here's an online version of the test if you never took it before. (It just takes maybe 5 minutes):

http://www.humanmetrics.com/cgi-win/JTypes2.asp

I am an ENFP and I suspect I am highly under-represented in the kendo world. No matter. :) I love kendo anyway. (err, love/hate...)

What is everyone else?

Hmm extroverted, intuitive, feeling, perceiving? By your test, I'm INFP but I'd say only the IN part is very certain, I'm a bit in the middle when it comes to behaving between feeling/thinking and perceiving/judging. So some days I can behave more like INTJ or INSP. I know more kendo people that are like you than like me so I doubt you're underrepresented in kendo. Should have made this a poll so we could see what category most KWers would fall under.

INTJ 'Mastermind' allegedly. I think the quiz is politely trying to tell me that I'm too judgemental.

INFJ:

I Introvert: I interact with few Kenshi's. Mostly Sensei's only. Internalize and think about things alone. Kendo is a puzzle.
N Intuition: The abstract benefit of Kendo is something that attracts me. There is something in the process. Kendo is Koan.
F Feeling: I link intuition and feeling. I am currently trying to develop my intuitive abilities thru feeling. Kendo is something.
J Judgement: Always arrives early an hour before class starts. Certain routines before class. Everything is planned.
Weekly suburi is always planned ahead. I like workout journals and writing on them.
I just dont like surprises. <------- Judgement explains why I like things planned.

Kata's Kihon and Kendo, are something I really enjoy. A wealth of insights thru the process of experiencing this alone.
Its also a specific exercise which I like and just drill alot. I can see how it develops my suburi and kendo.

If I were to play myself:
Takes advantage of JUDGEMENT: Unorthodox off rhythm style to get me off guard.

My strength: Intuition...... I know what your thinking. Off rhythm wont work on me.

Thank you for sharing. I know myself a little more now.

ps. would love to hear a BONAPART type of Kenshi. Would his Men be small?

I think it would be interesting to see the difference in outcome between taking that survey and someone who knows you well taking it for you.

i got INFP - # slightly expressed introvert
# moderately expressed intuitive personality
# moderately expressed feeling personality
# slightly expressed perceiving personality

Princess Diana, Michel de Montaigne, J.K. Rowling, Anton Chekhov are my celebrity matches. I think it's telling me to be a writer or become ar royal. I'll go with the royal as it has more money I heard.

But seriously, I talk to everyone in my dojo and have no problem with interacting with people and alot of people at that. But I do like to read a book than go to a party sometimes, and now I'm introverted?!

This just means that on the scale of things, you lean a little bit more towards introversion than extroversion. On my poll, I was very expressed introvert, the poll game me a numerical score of 100 on that trait.

Among research psychologists, Myer-Briggs is the backyard ninjery of personality assessment. The serious guys go by the Big Five (http://www.outofservice.com/bigfive/).
