hey

my friend is going to China and I want to ask that person to buy some tenugui. but that person doesnt know nothing about kendo, nor chinese.

so, does anyone of you know what should be written in a paper to show to the guy in the kendo shops so they would know that they are looking for tenugi??

I'm not an expert but if your friend is visiting a kendo shop/warehouse, I'm pretty sure the staff would understand the word tenegui- that being said, I'm not sure if there's even a word for it in Chinese.

Tenugui手拭い
Unfortunately, the last character is in hiragana, which has no equivalent in Chinese

Tenugui is a Japanese thing. They wouldn't know what that is, unless you are asking a kendoka. Your best bet is go to a kendo shop.

It's written as 頭巾 (Tou jin)

I think the closet you would get is shojin, which means hankerchief and not what you want. Tenuguis are a Japanese thing and not used commonly in China but could be found at subway stations and 7-11s in Japan. If your friend is stopping at Narita airport, all the gift shops there have them.

So you change the hand to head which is then turned to the word tenugi

I am sure neither 手巾 nor 頭巾 (头巾) would get you the Tenugui as you know it. Chinese don't have such a thing as tenugui. So your options are kendo shop or Japan.
