Thanks for putting that up Alec. Great blog and scary vid.

The clean up continues as that sand from the liquefaction is wheel-barrowed from people's yards to the street for the city council to collect. To this point, they have reportedly picked up in excess of 220,000 tonnes of it.

Thank goodness for Dad's homebrew, and for all the expletives the Bennett family can utter in such a short period of time!

Hey there's only 2 F words in there, and that's not bad considering!

With the quake in NZ and all the violence in Libya and the middle-east, there's so much happening, so much to care about. It can be a bit numbing though - I feel so far away from it all.

Thanks for writing this post, it helped to put a human face on it for me. Thankful that you and yours are safe, grieved for all the loss, and hoping for the fastest possible recovery for Christchurch and its people.

Is everybody in Kanto and beyond alright. I have been trying to ring, but of course it is no use. I am watching the tsunami destroy the countryside on TV, it is horrendous. Please post here when you get a chance. I am also trying to contact many other people, but I know it will be impossible for quite a while.

I had no idea about the tsunami, even though we're so close to it, no one here has said anything. The footage does look devastating.

Katsuura and everyone at IBU is fine! We just had some (really nasty) shakes and a small tsunami. No deaths though, i don't think, and there seems to be no damage to the buildngs in and around the University.

The tsunami makes liquefaction look like a walk in the park. I have to stop living in earthquake prone countries.
