View Full Version : How to win Honorably

If your about to fight some one in a Match (Kendo) and you know that the person is not very confident of himself\herself, and there Waza isnt very good and you know that you are the superior Kenshi how should you fight them? If you do win, How can you do it Honorably? So that it wasnt just you were better and he was weak (waza wise). I want to be a very Honorable Kenshi, in everything I do. If it be in a match or not. So if this made any sense, if anyone has any thoughts please feel free to post.

I'd do it "business-like". No fancy tricks, just win. If the other guy is horrible and cocky, I'll drag it out and agonize my opponent.

No win feels as nice and instructs your opponent as much as a win by a nice, clean men! No tricks so it really forces them to analyze their basics as to why they lost. If you win by advanced stuff, they may not learn as much or even understand why they lost. Losing to fundamental techniques will force them to reconsider their fundamentals.

Well for me I'd make it more of a tie, that I would.. I'd let myself fall into thier strike to get thier confidence up and "almost hit, but miss" with one of mine. Basically, show them they arent alone and that you want to help. ^.^x unless your aiming just to beat the hell out of them then do whatever. lol

Well this isent just a kendo "problem " its in all aspects of life and sports ,

Only thing worse then to loose is to win because the other guy let you win . That just means the other guy dident think you were worth taking serius and he had to hand you the win . Id rather loose and know I did my best then to win coz the other dude let me .

Just win and act normal and be a good winner , no need to tell the dude he sucks after you win.

Ken... I mean Sakabatou , u dont even do kendo :ermm:

What I would appreciate if I was in their shoes is someone who didn't hold back and fought with everything they had. I also appreciate an opponent that would let me know what I was doing wrong and give me one or two practical pointers on where to improve my Kendo. My feeling regarding confidence is that it must be earned. Kendo is a martial art that takes a good bit of time to become proficient in, helping a fellow Kendoka in that journey is the most honorable way.

How does going easy on someone in the real fight benefit them? Shiai is one of the tests in kendo...if you go easy on the person, it does them and you no good.

It's like how in school they lower the grade so the stupid kid doesn't feel so bad...it makes no sense...I mean in shiai you and your opponent should give it your all. If he/she gives 100% they may even surprise you.

The first shiai I fought was when I was san-kyu and I just went in 100%...I was against a Yondan and so the feeling was I was gonna get creamed. Four minutes into the shiai I managed to get ippon with a kote. I got really excited and tried to go for the second point(this is where experience comes the better) and he managed to get hiki-men and then a men.

Sure he was more exp/better but by giving your all you bring out the best in both, note: he came up to me later and he had to work to get the win back.

Don't hold back.

Well i dont agree with going easy on them. I was just wondering what other kinds of players are out there :) thanks for your replys. And Yowai you give a bad name to Kendo, and everything for that matter. You truely are Weak as your name states, You are Yowai Baka, Weak Stupid person. Baka o miru.
*Bows Domo Arigato for all your replys, even the silly ones. Any more of your opinions would be greatly apreiciated.

Kendo is about doing your best and showing respect to fellow kendoka. If you do not do you best and if you do not show respect, your win or loss is dishonorable.

Whether you can beat an opponent easily or not, never under estimate your opponent. Don't hold back and just do your Kendo. On any given Sunday Anything can happen.

This is shiai we're talking about, not jigeiko, right? Play your best kendo like you normally would. Shiai is not the time to be teaching. When you meet him in jigeiko, then you can use teaching kendo.

BTW playing lower ranks in shiai can be a problem - it's hard to get yourself up for that kind of match, and their timing is all screwy. It's not like you're bulletproof, and the judges flags don't care how many dan he has.

In the Sun Tzu quote, you might want to correct the spelling of "opportunity".

Winning with out deserving it sucks. In one shiai last year I won because the other guy dislocated his knee and had to withdraw. He was winning with one point at the time. I got the win but felt like crap.

To win honorably is easy, to lose honorably is harder, especially if you lost because of bad calls from the judge. I would still be courtesous to my opponent because it's not his fault, but i would bitch a lot about it to other people.
