konichi wa watashi no name wa jarosu takashi desu 3 dan.
well if or if not you understand its cool. i wanted to know any of you out there in ohio? im looking always for students i teach near the clevland area for free in a dojo. i have 2-3 students now and would like to aid the kendo community.

well any how how many of you got to study in japan? and are now in america? i ask cuz im in this boat and i find it slightly disterbing. i have found few to none near me with the total knowledge of kendo, they have the mind set of tournament or i want to hit people. this is pathetic to me i love kendo and embrace it. recently i am teaching four men 30-45+ years of age its great, all i ask to know is out of all you kyu what is it that you want your sensei to do?
like me in japan i liked...no i loved practice but wish sensei(s) had tried to beat me to a pulp...lol we all know that during geiko sensei dose not try to rip you a new one. but just for the books and your own opinion what do you like or want to see new?

Hi there!

Welcome to the forum!

Have you joined the AUSKF(All US Kendo Federation) yet? You will need to do so if you plan to do Kendo here and be able to participate in any tournaments. And, I believe you will need some high rank sensei to oversee your dojo, from what I have heard, to act as an avisor since you are only nidan. One of the sensei here should know this. I can't really say more, because I am just a student myself.

There is also Kendo and Iaido in Cleveland already, if you want to practice yourself.

Here are the two dojos in Cleveland:

Cleveland Kendo Association
Woddling Gymnasium
Cleveland State University
Cleveland, OH
M Iaido 6:00-7:30pm Kendo 7:30-9:00pm
Contact: T. Inoshita, M.D. (216)321-1187

e-mail: pcancer@zoomnet.net

------------

Cleveland State University
Iaido Group
Contact: Ken Kondo (216)229-4183

-----------

I highly recommend that you go to practice there before starting a dojo up, IMHO. That way, you can get a feel for what Kendo is like here and you can meet new Kenshi like yourself. :)

Oh, I checked your profile, so I know you aren't sandan yet, By the way, you can grade here for sandan. :) So, I suggest you start practicing with the group at the University. You will enjoy that.

Here is the AUSKF website:

Welcome to the US and I hope you like it here! :)

You seem to be american, judging by the colloquial american english. Real ESL students have a different footprint. I may be wrong; you might have learnt english from wolves or the homeless.

takashijarosu-san,

There is also a Kendo club in Akron which is not far from you either. It's probably about 40-45 minutes away. I just looked on a map.

Fairlawn Community Center

Akron, OH

The URL above is a cached version since I could not get the original site to open.

You should go check out all these dojos. Don't forget to call the sensei at each one first, to ask to be allowed to watch a practice or participate. That is what is usually done.
