Currently reading it on my iPad right now. Looks really sharp. I haven't bought any KW magazines before and this is my first. The price and the fact I can get it instantly on my mobile device or Kindle really made me go for it. Thanks.

You know..this is great. See this, go to Amazon, click buy and 30 seconds later I got it on my iPhone.

I don't have a kindle, or iphone. Just to be sure I don't spend money on something I can't use, can I d/l this to a mac and read it on there?

Woah. Way cool.

Yes, just downloaded the reader to my PC. There's one for Macs too.

I want to clarify something.
I know there is a kindle app for mac, but one limitation that app has is
Kindle newspapers, magazines, and blogs are not currently available for Kindle for Mac
I want to know if that means the KW on my mac or pc.

First issue of KW I've bought, and I have to say that this is fantastic. I've read a few past issues that I've borrowed off friends, but held off subscribing to kendo world in the past because I change my address quite frequently. It's great to be able to download and have it instantly on my PC, and for a very good price! Thank you KW!

Looks iffy, I just tried it on mine and it asked "how would I like it" for my ipad or iphone, no mac option. I am going to get it anyways and read it on my wife's ipad.

One thing I've noticed is KW is not actually set up as a Magazine but looks to be set up as a Book in Amazon. Also, you can always download the sample first to test it out.

JSchmidt: yes I already looked there and they do not mention magazines. That said both mac and pc people should be aware: of http://calibre-ebook.com/ an open source reader for all e-pub formats. that should do the job for all of us.

OK, the Kindle for Mac app works just fine. I tested it with the sample first (didn't realize that was an option, thanks nimrod.) I was concerned about the "does not work with magazines" clause but I guess what they really mean is that the app doesn't work with subscription based services. Works fine for KW though.

Just downloaded it. First time I ever purchase KW (no, I'm not proud).

The layout is not bad but I prefer the way the Economist's iPhone app is set-up to be honest. I assume KW doesn't really control the way the Kindle for iPhone works.

Any chance there's going to be subscriptions on offer soon?

If Kindle didn't work with Kendo World, it wouldn't be up there for download. The original printed journal format was modified slightly to allow it to be viewable in Kindle. Of course, we have no control whatsoever how Kindle works for the iPhone. No, there will be no subscriptions because there will be no need. Each KW journal will be made available on Kindle as it comes out. Will will still be producing the print version as well.

Awesome! It's been a bit of a wait, but I'm very happy now that it's here. Like a few of the others, this is my first time buying an issue simply because I didn't want to go through the hassle with a treeware copy.

Any plans to make back issues available, Alex? How about other KW publications?

So very awesome! I haven't gotten any issues since 2.4 but now all limits are off! (and I'll put my hand up for a yes please for back issues)

Alex

Hi Scott,

yes that is the plan. Mind you, it takes quite a bit of jiggery pokery to change the formatting for Kindle, so the layout essentially has to be done again. We will start putting back issues up one by one. As for other publications, same problems, but that is certainly our intention. It will give me another chance to go through and erase any previous typos that slipped through the net before printing!

OMG!! Awesome is all I can say, and beats my mail carrier dog-earing the back issues!! Sign me up for all the back issues too! Dan

Skimmed through it using my iPad, now settling in for a more thorough read.

General comments (again, this is using Kindle on my iPad, ymmv):
* Price to low! As proposed, it's an introductory offer, but for a magazine of this quality, real price ought to be at least $10-$12.
* The Table of Contents was at the back, I think it would feel more normal at the front. On selecting KW from the menu of books, the program opened it up to the first article, which was a little disorienting. If it opened up to the cover page or the ToC it'd feel better.
* Maybe weird to say, but I'd like to see some adverts.
* Color doesn't show up on a Kindle reader, but does on other devices. It'd be a "nice to have."

The content, as always, was excellent. Thank you for your efforts. I have a year or two's worth of issues, but am more than willing to re-purchase the digital versions, and am looking forward to their availability.

Huh?
Most books can be bought for less than $10 on Kindle. Why should I pay more for a magazine?. There's no printing cost, no stock, etc.

There are a LOT of places where you can pay as much money as you want for <insert product/service name here> and be subjected to relentless and unsolicited advertising. Maybe Hawaii is not one of those places. If so, I want to live there. b

I think $6 for a quarterly publication is quite low actually, especially something this specialized. I don't know what the market would support but they could probably raise the price a bit. Printing is cheap compared to the value of the information...

It's pretty much a trade publication, which doesn't make it necessarily follow regular pricing guidelines the same way that mainstream content does. Kendo World is never going to be mainstream enough that they can price it any other way. Printing, stock, &c., are not necessarily going to be the deciding factors, the things you have to pay for are knowledgeable, professional folks to actually get out there, do research, write articles, &c. That costs. Lots.

Addendum: quick example, "Panel World." It's a trade publication about panels (drywall panels, veneer, &c.). Not real exciting stuff, and you're never going to keep it going by quantity, there just aren't enough folks who'd buy it. IIRC, price is $20 an issue.

That about sums it up Charles. The journal we have on Kindle at the moment (5.3) is being sold at a special rate because it is our first try, and it's a bit of a trial run. When it's up and running properly, the standard price will be more expensive, maybe around the $10 mark (don't quote me on this). If anybody is under the sad delusion that this is too expensive, then they really don't have to buy it! In any case, there are still a few minor issues that have to be ironed out (like the contents page), but we're pretty happy with it so far. I have been reading it on my i-phone, and am really pleased with how easy to read it is. The back issues will be put up eventually, but it will still take a lot of work to get the formatting right. All the journals we produce from now will be disigned with both the paper version and Kindle in mind, so it shouldn't be such a convoluted process to get them ready for download.

This is great! I really hope that ALL back issues will be available for purchase in this e-format (especially issue 1.1, which is very rare).

The kindle app is only available for the US itunes, means other countries still cant get the digital version of KW :( unless they sign up for a US itunes account to get around it. I really want to purchase KW but its pricey in print so the digital version is a great idea for international readers!
