Hey all - this may seem like a very stupid question, but seeing as we have isshu jiai with nito vs. single shinai, shinai vs. naginata, and even nito ryu vs. naginata, is there such a thing as a nito ryu vs. nito ryu match? I realize that perhaps all one would be able to hit is men and maybe kote, but still, two swordsmen with two swords each going up against each other must be quite a sight to behold.

Or ask Moocow... aka Itokazu. I'm sure he's sparred nito to nito...

One would assume that such a fight would be a big nasty mess. I've heard of one sensei say that nito is not "real kendo" specifically because in a nito on nito match there can be no good ippon (among other reasons).

why just 2 weeks ago at the Steveston Tournament, I went against J. Inouye from youshinkan dojo in canada, first time i met him was at the pnkf tournament, we played to a draw, this last time i managed to knock his shoto from his hand doing hiki men, twice !!...I also played another nito player from bellevue dojo, managed a draw with him also ... with itokazu it really doesnt matter if its ito or nito , he'll beat you either way... but I can tell you it is fun to spar against another nito player, ( except Itokazu ) hahaha but i guess someday i will keiko with him ..

Nito vs single is still kendo vs kendo

Nito or single vs naginata is kendo vs Naginata

I fail to see why this would qualify for a Demonstration type match.......

If two people who practice Nito-Ryu happen to meet in one of the tournament brackets..that's just the way it is. It's not any different than two people doing seigan in a shiai or a seigan player playing a Jodan player...It's just another opponent..

Nito and Jodan are rarer, but when it comes down to it...its just another Kamae
