Colin-sama,

Methinks Nathan may have confused Okinawan Kubudo, which is simply referred to as "Kobudo" in Karate circles and is a catch-all category for Rokushaku-bo, Sai, Nunchaku, Tonfa, and Kama practices, with [Japanese] Kobudo ("classical martial ways"). At face value, the original question is confusing.

I recall that some Okinawan practitioners do practice with Katana and even Naginata, but they seem to be a rarity.

FWIW.

Kobudo is a term that translates literally as "Old Martial Way" and could include anything from Jujitsu, ShirikanJitsu, right through to kenjitsu. All of which will have schools/styles specific to a given area in Japan along with all of the more well know styles.

I remember attending the Higo Kobudo exhibition held in Kumamoto several years ago now, which showcased some of the kobudo still practiced within Kumamoto prefecture, it included at least three diffrent styles of kenjitsu amongst (and I'm going on memory here) about 20 other different martial arts some of which I have listed above.

So I guess the answer very quickly would be kenjitsu, but a fuller answer would require a clarification of the question perhaps.
