Well the naginata section is not as good as the rest, but I am still in awe of the man with the pointy stick.

Naginata section is curious although sparse - but the "Japanese Sword" section, filled with its ridiculous kamaes (what in the world are tenchi no kamae and totoku no kamae? Sensei didn't teach me that! :D). Baffling Budo all the way....

And please don't tell me that this (http://www.pittsburghbujinkan.com/hb_munen_muso_front.jpg) is an actual kamae....

Bujinkan actually has some connection with authentic naginatajutsu from Kukishin Ryu. The kamae look a bit strange but I have seen stranger, and ZNN Mugamai in ZNN is a bit strange too, isn't it?

As for AMERICAN KANG DUK WON KARATE ASSOCIATION... well, I leave it up to the viewer to judge...

I like how waki gamae (called "ura gedan no kamae" for some reason) has the blade facing in, towards the body.

I don 't know anything about the Bujinkan, so I won't comment on the kata. However, the techno music is a nice little touch to these videos, eh?

Before this, it was Jill Crandell's Videotape "Naginata at its best," complete with an overhead "helicopter" twirl of the Naginata (wood handle with some sort of metal blade) and a forward roll to boot anlong with a couple of kicks.

Here husband was/is a Korean stylist who proportedly specialized in the ancient Korean weapon, the Tonfa. :D.

He he he... When I had found these sites I also came across a kuratee forum. The discussion was started by a woman who wanted to start naginata, and was wondering where one could find these "real deal" naginata (like on the American koom lok dok what the fook site) for training. They described the naginatas as being 'a solid wood shaft, with an x-inch blade fixed to the end with bolts, and duct-tape on the nuts to keep the bolts from coming out'.
EEK! :confused2
I would love to get my hands on the "Naginata at it's best" video.

Perhaps we can arrange something off-forum.

BTW, these Krotty people refer to this as NAGANATA. :D

It would be interesting to see naginata's "best". If I can make it out to Bryn Mawr (I most likely will) we can make an exchange there. That is assuming you will also be there.

Ha ha ha... I know, that's how me dear mum pronounces it no matter how many times I correct her.

Check out Basic Postures for Naginata (http://www.ny-naginata.org/naginata/postures.html); Hasso is center-right.

I've read that in one period there was more than 400 naginata ryu in Japan, so I believe that many part of them have survive in different ryu which deals more with other weapon now.

I invite you to check my little post over Katori Shinto ryu there are interesting pictures over other kamae : http://www.lenaginata.be/index.php?option=displaypage&Itemid=75&op=page&SubMenu=

I've done a basic Atarashii kamae page, feel free to copy the jpg if you want, but please mention their origin if you reuse them :

After reading the site and it's parent site, all I can say is buyer beware. There are some fishy things but in the interest of peace and harmony I won't point them out. I do like how your cover all 9 "authentic" ninjutsu schools on your way to shodan. :)
