I have never seen Yahoo News post any kendo/kumdo photos. This is very rare!
Yahoo News photo caption:

FUNNY.
Anyway, she has time to do all this stuff while being a public prosecutor?

Prosecutor by day and by night, she is going out to punish those guilty but can't prosecute during the day, they call her DARK ANGEL.

I admire her dedication in this, being a public prosecuter takes a lot of time and not to mention the years she went through in trying to get the law degree. All that time and she still can find time to practice.

All is GOOD but if she's 26 now and became a master 9 years ago while she started at age 13 - that leads me to believe that she became a master of sword dancing in 4 years? Am I missing something? Some people are genius about something but with her day job all - I must be missing something.

Haedong gumdo - from what I've seen, the only connection to swordwork is that they hold a sword in their hands while they prance about.

I have read the article about this women on a free news paper. She is supposed to be a sword master at age 26 What a load of Nonsense. I noticed a lot a funny comments about her one guy says about kumdo is they all the seem to do is hold a sword in one hand and prance/dance about with it like a ballarena. Another niave man says I wouldn't wanna meet this gal in a dark alley - whatever. Well I don't know too much about korean swordmanship only that I a visited a hapikido dojo about 3months ago to see what its about, what I witnessed was the most astounding craptacular swordsmanship I have ever witnessed a instructor teach students. He said quote, 'Korean swordmanship is a little more relaxed than Japanese swordmanship". Well if thats kumdo then I would challenge this silly spider women wench any day.

Hap ki do can be a serious martial form, or it can be corrupted into a bunch of watered-down, strip mall McDojo crap, just like any other martial art. Apparently Taiwnezboi saw the McDojo version.

A couple of weeks back I saw a martial arts show from Paris, it aired on Eurosport I believe. Anyway, towards the end of the show, they showcased a swordart. This particular swordart happened Hae Dong Kumdo, or something like that.
It wasn't excactly what I expected. I thought perhaps it would be somewhat like kendo. Not quite!
Jeez, those guys were prancing around so much, you'd think they were shaolin monks or something. Running, jumping, rolling, spinning....all while expertly wielding their fearsome weapons in a mindboggling dance of death and destruction.
Possibly the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. In addition the swedish commentator kept referring to, and comparing them to, the grand art of "LAIDO".
Quite amusing actually!

I've never seen hapkido and I didn't say anything about it. I said that the person I quoted was talking about hapkido in his post and saying that it's Kumdo and we're weak or something.

Yeah HDGD isn't kendo by any stretch of the imagination! Actually "kumdo" means sword arts and isn't limited to kendo at all.

i agree that haedong gumdo is different to kendo, but the kanji/hanja are the same, sword path (way of the sword)

CHinese character for "kendo" is same as "kumdo" BUT in Japanese the term "kendo" is assciated EXCLUSIVELY to a specific art. This is not the case with "kumdo" in the Korean language.
In Korean, the words "gum" and "do" as separate words are practically used in the spoken language. The term "gum" and "do" together literally means "sword" and "way" and is used to describe any systemized sword arts... since that what the word literally means. It might be comparable to how the term "karate" is used in Japan although I don't speak Japanese.
In any case, confusion over this distinction causes a lot of misunderstsanding and between Kendo and Kumdo enthusiasts from what I can observe. Add to that ethnocentric nationalism on both sides and it gets really nasty really quick.
