I have been taught fencing since i was aged six years. And i guess i know the technique quite well by now. I would like to be taught Kendo. But since i already am well skilled in Fencing i was wondering if it would affect my technique. I would also have a fair collection of Damascus swords (ones that have been folded.) and was wondering if there were any active clubs that use this type of sword, a sharp bladed one. Any information would be most helpful.

Kendo is very different from fencing in form and style. You may lose your fencing skills as you try to learn kendo.
Kendo does not use swords, only shinai and bokken, bamboo and wooden swords, respectively. Iaido uses metal swords but only Japanese swords, not European swords.

If you have been training in fencing for so long, I cant imagine that your fencing skills would be adversely affected.

Kendo is very different, biodynamically and metaphysically as of course is the weapon and the way it is used to cut or slice through your opponent.

As for real sword use hai hai is correct.

Thank you all for your help. Especialy Hai_Hai, as i would like to retain my fencing skills, if it were possible. I also do have some Japanese style swords, as i collect them. Some of them are quite old, such as one that my Great Grandfather recieved from The emperor of japan for being the one of the first to enter the eagles nest. But in fencing i have only been taught for 16 years, as i am only 22.
