I will be attending the University of Southern California in the fall and I'm wondering if anyone is a student there. If so, what is your practice schedule? Which dojo(s) do you go to? Is there a club on campus? I think Sho-Tokyo is the nearest dojo. More importantly, what are your means of transportation? I am going to be a carless freshman and even though walking 5 miles every Wednesday night to Sho Tokyo sounds horrible after practice, I will do so if I have to!

I hope you think about walking the streets there at night, kendo or no kendo , your shinai wont stop bullets, maybe you read about the guy frrom Hawaii who was a student there who was found dead on the street..try and find a ride to get where you want.. sho tokyo and chuo are the closest dojo's there ..then again theres Venice on the westside..

Hi Gary,
Congratulations on getting into USC. As an alumnus of UC Irvine, sister school of UCLA, all I can say is: You suck...:P
Seriously, though, Sho-Tokyo and Chuo are the closest dojo to USC and I definitely do not recommend walking out to either one of them, especially after practice, unless you're donned in full HALO gear with a BFG. As Inouye-san mentioned, Venice and Westside are your other options on the Westsiiiiiide, but they are further away than Sho-Tokyo and Chuo.
Find out what your fall class and study schedule is like first then think about your kendo schedule. Remember, school and family should take priority before kendo.
See you at practice!

Hi Inouye-san,
Um...nooo...Venice dojo is about 9.5 miles from USC and Sho-Tokyo is only about 4.6 miles away...yes, I mapped it and, yes, I'm a geek...:D
