A homestay is a good way to get to Japan for Kendo, especially at your age. My first trip to Japan materialized that way. I think there are others (for sure at least one other person on this forum) that started out this way. The advantage of a homestay is that it is an opportunity to find out what it is really like to live like the Japanese do, and to make some really close friends. The disadvantage is that you place yourself in a situation where you are compelled to abide by the rules of your hosts. This could include such things as--the horror--no drinking.

Good places to look for a homestay are with the relatives of your teachers (if they happen to be from Japan), and with Rotary Clubs.

In addition to what this kind of homestay can do for your Kendo and the fun you'll undoubtedly have, it will be an excellent thing for your to talk or write about during your college application process.

thankyou very much for your reply.

I think a homestay would be good, it will let me do kendo and improve my Japanese, but could you tell me more about these rotary clubs that you mentioned.

Many thanks,

Samuel Keen.
