Does anyone subscribe? What do you think?
Just wondering.
I subscribe to Kendo Jidai, my Japanese isn't spectacular but it gives me reading practice. Gambarimasu. It's more like a picture magazine for me. They got diagrams, photos of techniques, photos of tournaments, interviews with people, tournament results, advertisements. Three months ago, they had an insert with tons of high school tournament results. I guess you can get your 15 seconds of fame if your name gets printed in there. I'm pretty amazed they can come out monthly with more material than "Black Belt" magazine (what a joke).

Thankyou to the many who do subscribe!
We have diagrams, photos of techniques, photos of tournaments, interviews with people, tournament results, advertisements. Plus the pick of articles from Kendo Jidai and Kendo Nippon, in English!
Do you want to find out what the sensei on the 8th dan grading panel are looking for? How much of that did you understand when it was in Kendo Jidai compared to when it was in Kendo World? Not many photos there, so maybe you missed it? :)
We write the magazine for those who don't have daily access to 8th dan sensei, and want to get into the guts of kendo and similar budo arts. We have heard nothing but good things from anyone who reads the magazine. One iaidoka recently said he learnt more from reading one issue than he had in the previous year of training!
Sure, lots of photos are good, and we're trying to get more in each issue, but if you want more than that, here we are!!
You can buy a back issue and check it out if you don't want to subscribe.

Hi Hai Hai,
I'm the opposite. I subscribe to Kendo Nippon because well, IMHO there's more pictures in Kendo Nippon than Kendo Jidai.
I also subscribe to Kendo-World.
The articles are excellent. I personally like the "breathing" series the best, but the waza clinics and the interpretations of Kendo Kata and what the senseis look for in high-level kenshi has also been really informative!!!

Not to mention the sprinkles of humour here and there - I like those "martial aid" adds in KW mags! :D

Oh yes. I always make sure to check my horoscope. I need to know if I am going to meet a tall dark stranger that will beat me up.
So, when are those martial aids going to be made available through the KW magazine?
I will subscribe in a few months.
I have a few questions:
1. Do you also ship to germany?
2. How can I order back issues? Just send you a mail or is there a form on the website?

Thanks to the Kendo World Team for making this magazine a reality.
Some thoughts I have regarding the magazine's content:
1) I really like the feature "Hanshi says..." I have always found something pertaining to my own training in each Hanshi feature.
2) I'm excited by the new feature "By the Way" that deals with kendo equipment knowledge. I wish each one were longer, though.
3) For me, "The Nuts 'N Bolts" isn't the most productive part of the magazine. It's nice to read about the techniques and look at the photos, and I suppose something like that is essential for a kendo magazine. However, I feel that techniques are something that have to be practiced in the dojo over and over; reading and looking at the pictures just aren't going to translate into personal kendo improvement.
4) "Kendo Clinics" is very long and too technical. It reads like an academic paper, complete with the verbosity and level of detail that are necessary for an academic paper. I think the papers are geared towards medical doctors, making its utility for an everyday person somewhat low.
5) Occasionly, I liked a certain article a lot, say, part one of the article on Don Trent in vol.2 no.2. And I would look eagerly forward to part 2 in vol.2 no.3, only to find it not there. Given the quarterly publishing schedule of the magazine, the skipping of issues for a multi-part article is... a tough training for myself to develop patience.
Overall, I'm very glad I'm subscribing to the magazine. Hope you guys will keep up the good work!

Thanks for your comments, Slidercrank.
It's hard getting a balance for different people, particularly with something like the clinic articles, but I was concerned about your copy not having part 2 of the Don Trent interview, it should be on page 66 of volume 2.3. Are you missing it from your copy? If so we'll get another copy to you right away.

My mistake. I found the article in my issue. I missed it totally. That's the problem with a thick magazine; you miss stuff easily:)
And yes, everyone who frequents this site should subscribe to the magazine! I think the information in the four issues are easily worth more than the yearly subscription fee.
Thanks for your comments, Slidercrank.

KW mags are an excellent kendo resource in english. Subscribe without hesitation.
Here are my thoughts about the magazine:
- "Hanshi says..." section. Love it.
- "Kendo Clinic" - helpful in regards to treatment. Some sections are way too technical.
- "Nuts and Bolts of Kendo" - very helpful in terms of insight and shedding light on fine details.
- "Breath Control" - love it.
- "Philosphy of Kata"- love it.
- Lockie's articles are generally helpful. Let's see more stuff on kendo equipment.
- Love those reports on kendo tournaments
- Keep it up with the kendo humour!
The KW Team has done an excellent job in providing us such quality resource. Good on ya fellas!
