Here you can find a videoclip of a belgian group called DeLaVega.
They used kendo in their videoclip.
Mr Haeke Wesley and Ms Yano Chieko are currently Belgian Champions Kendo.
Chieko won also Mumeishi 2003 Ladies, Nakakura Cup 2003 Ladies.
Wesley won Nakakura 2003 Open and Teams.

Waw Great video James!!!! :D. I like the part where the woman puts on her Tenugui. I recently got interested in posture and the Japanese way of flowing movement. actions should be done without unnecessary movement. This is shown well in this video I think :).
But I wonder why they chose to theme there video around kendo.

It's a pretty video and well filmed, but boy does the music suck!

Kako ii.
This shows good kendo and iaido, not flashy-fake Hollywood kendo. The setting was unreal (space too small to do kendo) but dramatic.

Liked the film, music sucks, singer sucks... It might have been cute if Britney sing this song....

I liked the music and the video except the ending part when you saw the band then from there it went a little strange :D.
P.S Hai hai I dont think Iaido is done with Keiko gi. Looked like Kendo kata #4 hon me.

Iai uses keikogi and hakama just like kendo. Also uses an obi inside of the hakama to hold the sword but you wear the same clothing.

Nice video! It was refreshing to see some actual kendo in a video, rather than just models with swords. However, the close-up of the band member with the goofy glasses towards the endwas quite jarring.
I didn't really mind the music as music, except that it sounded like every other trip-pop á la morcheeba ripoff of the last couple years and didn't really fit to the video. So i tried watching it again with a different soundtrack: Chops feat. Raekwon - "What's F*ckin Wit Us." Now that really made my boat float. Recommend trying your favorites at home.
Maybe we could have a video remix contest or something...

Lots of iaidoka wear a uwagi that is lighter than the one kendoka wear. But you can use a kendogi if you like. At any rate, there was iaido in there and also kendo kata (#4).

I just posted the link because there was Kendo in the clip. The music doesn't bother me, the faces of the group members don't bother me either.
I really like the clip because it reflects more "the art of the sword", it's very artistic like it is brought in the clip.
I don't think there are a lot of people here who consider Kendo to be a "stupid dance for girls in a strange clothes with some sort of stick :( like a shitty hobby"

Why does it give that impression? :ermm: Every thing is realistic the Bougu keikogi Hakama Tenugui, how you put them on. How you draw the shinai how you fence. Every thing except for the back drop :)...Even some of the people were pro kendo ka. I don't know how it could be any more realistic unless there were shinpan and people doing kiai :D.

i'm not about kendo, bogu, shinai or something like this in this clip, i'm about clip itself. you, as kendoka, can see if kendo good or not, but for the mass people it's not kendo in this clip, its a stupid dance with pop music.
realistic would be kakarikeiko with 'napalm death' soundtrack :)

I'm not sure "the masses" are so ignornant about kendo -- they saw Kill Bill and the Last Samurai, didn't they? :ditsy: Anyway, featuring kendo in a video is nothing new. Bomfunk MCs did it a couple years ago with their awful cover of that oh-so-80s song, "There's something going on." It only had a few slow-motion men-uchi though, the rest was of other sports and martial arts.
The novelty of the video JamesB posted was that it featured kendo exclusively and in a rather tasteful way. Kudos for that.
For a "stupid dance with pop music," try this...

Althoug i dont like the music, i liked the video very much, even for a belgian band (evil laugh :D ).
The 2nd movie posted is not kendo nor iaido, and everybody can do that it if you train :)

i think Kill Bill is a BAD STUPID COMEDY, which has nothing nor with kendo nor with budo at all.
if you wear schimpanze in a bogu and give him a shinai - it would not become kendoka.
as for the clip - it is good, but not realistic and shows kendo wrong imho. kendo is a budo, not dance, like in this clip
Nice clip from Belgium. Creative and nicely filmed. No reason to put it to a critical grinding process on technicalities.
I am pretty sure there is no Iai, only parts of kendokata done with iaito, taken from going up and down to sonkyo. I will watch it again tonight, after practise. Maybe I am wrong.

Wow what a fantastic clip! Nice music to boot, though the part about "putting your hand between my legs" doesn't gel well with budo though. :D
To the outsiders, you reckon this clip may appear weird for a music video?

There was kendo used extensively in a music video from the 80's. The song was "It's my party and I can cry if I want to" by Dave Stewart Eurthimics sp???)
Crap song but interesting.

Shank´ congratulations!!! I'm so happy for you!
The clip is amazing. The best part of it -> when doing the (4.) kata with the katana. :devious: It was very so impressive. I didn’t like the music either, but it was worth looking. :p

I thought the video was excellent.
In my opinion, anything that brings kendo into the public eye is a good thing. And this video does this really well.
i especially like the slow motion Gyaku-Dou...

what an impressive video! thank you jamesB for providing the link.
i'm not a fan of this music style too, but i think the song harmonizes pretty well with the pictures. everything seems so graceful and beautiful - how could one watch this with napalm death?

cool video but I thought It was way too slow paced.
Kendo is cool because it is fast!! If you dont show the speed of kendo you lose something kinda.
