In the interior of a yamato do, would it hurt the material to write on in with a sharpie?
Perhaps a stupid question but I'm not touching it until i'm sure.

its only a plastic so it shouldnt be a big deal...YOu can do anything you want to the armor it wont hurt it...But a sharpie is a little too permanent you think?

will it hurt the doh? hmm. .. ...who knows, you can never be too sure of your actions. But, should it be really necessary then so be it. I should like to say the traditionalists of the way of the sword frawn upon any unorthodox display of one's bogu. Good luck with your situation, hope you find a solution soon.

He was asking about the inside, probably just wants to write his name there - go for it.

Don't quite believe that to be the case. It is common practice to write your name on the inside of your doh. I have doh that go back more than 50 years that have the name in them. Also it is not uncommon to see school teams with the school insignia plastered on them. PL for example covers a good third of the front of the doh.
If this were the case then all those old sets of armor would have been unadorned.

Ah yes, I know of this tradition that you speak of.(writing your names inside the doh and having unique school or family insignias/crests on the front of the doh dai) I didn't mean this to be "unorthodox" in my last post though. Sorry, maybe I should have elucidated the details of my words. My definition of unorthodox is something like writing anything else other than your name or number for club armor distinction purposes on the back of the doh dai. Suck as drawing a dragon or other "cool" designs.

Concour, don't care to see any silly stuff on peoples doh. In our area we sort of think of it as a challenge. The doh becomes the number one target. However in my club the only thing even close is one of the high school girls has a hello kitty kamon which in itself is pretty harmless don't you think?

It depends Mr. Masten, the korean woman champion also looks innocent to me. But I doubt she is anything but that. I suppose the "hello kitty" kamon is rather cute though. If I ever had to fight her, I wouldn't be able to do very well against her. Simply because I have a weak heart against fencing women. (s.i.g.h. .. ..tis a curse!) hahahaha,

Thanks all. I know that it shouldn't hurt it but it never hurts to ask.

Is my pikachu kamon too flashy?

Pikachu is kinda edgy, I would get goku or gohan. Is Frank still at Miami, if so give him my regards.

Back when we were kids, my friend put an "Iron Maiden" sticker on the front of his Do. He got through 2-3 rounds at the tournament until his Dad caught on and made him take it off.

Mastuda -Sensei, did you guys up north hang Omamori on the back of your Dos? I remeber back in the days we hung Omamori before they told us those were not allowed.

They are not allowed now?

There's a couple of people who still hang omamori around here...some of them hang thebag/envelope type in the inner doh loop behind the mune. I've also seen some hang it on the lower doh him near the attach loop.

We were told we cannot hang them in an exposed area. In the inner loop behind the mune should be allowed. We were told not to have them exposed. We used to hang them from the lower back Do loop.

Oh yeah, I remember putting an omamori on the Do was popular back in the 80s.....It became a trend in NCKF when a bunch of kids from Japan came to visit and they all had the omamori on the lower left loop of the Do.

Soon thereafter, a lot of kids started emulating that and they put an omamori on their Do...Unfortunately, some just did it because they thought it looked cool so you had some people with a "Kotsu-Anzen" (Safe Driving) Omamori on their Do....

Nowadays most, if not all, put the omamori on the inside of the Do and tie it to the mune loop.

Those were the good old days when we were young kids and had fun without all the politics. Just doing Kendo and meeting new friends.
