Hi there,
how often do you practice kata in your dojo?
By reading this forum, I have noticed that the amount of time spent with kata practice varies a lot.
Our dojo practices kata once every week for a least half an hour (nihon kata and the new kihon kata). I also practice parts of the kata at home from time to time. (Like jodan kamae in the first kata for example)

We also do it once a week, but it's semi-optional because it starts about an hour before the non-bogu beginner's class.
Last year, before gradings, we devoted a whole training period to kata.
I guess the variance in kata-practice from dojo to dojo comes down to how important the sensei judges it to be.

Servas!
In my dojo it's not so continous but on average i think we practice kata weekly too. I'm just a noob and in preparation for a big competition a few weeks ago everyone with bogu trained for shiai, what meant more kihon and kirikaesh for me and less kata for all. Last week we did more kata then anything else. It just depends.
I often train kata at home too, in my flat the ceiling is high enough that i can stand in jodan no kamae with bokken or shinai without scratching the ceiling and with 196cm i'm not a small dwarf. Currently I try to better that funny sidestep-move in the uchidachi-part of yonhonme.

In the Dojo I train at, we practice for the whole class for the first two classes of the month. Usually, though before every session, people turn up and go through Kata by themselves or in pairs, and the Senior grades walk around and point out the 'many' things we are doing wrong.

kata is practiced every class. It's divided into thirds. The first third is kata. The 2/3 is non-bogu and the last part is bogu.
