I've noticed the "reputation" function and have occassionally "added" to posters' "reputations" - what does this mean, exactly? How does this show up and what effects does it have?

Thanks.

To paraphrase Van Halen - Hot for Teacher, "I don't feel more reputable." But thanks.

Let's see what the big guns of Kendo World have to say about this new feature. They're probably busy spending their volunteer time trying to figure out how to get the PM running again, so i'm in no hurry.

Not sure what reputation does in the context of this message board, but I did find an "Ignore list" feature. Life is sweet without having to read posts by ...

:)

Yup, but practically everyone is "on a distinguished road," so it seems kind of redundant, although i suppose that's because the feature's new and nobody uses it except a few freaks like me. I also noticed that members who've never posted are "off the scale" and one well-known KW personality is an "unknown quantity," whatever that means.

I've never used the "report a bad post" feature, but i guess that would somehow alert a moderator. When i "add to reputation," click "i approve of this post," and write "very thoughtful," or "this post rocks!," etc. i'm wondering if this actually adds any "points" to the poster's reputation and if the message shows up anywhere or is just launched into deep space.

I suppose this feature is superfluous to peeps who hang around here a lot, as they know who's who anyway, although it might potentially be useful to newbies faced with contradictory answers to questions. It's also nice to be able to give the posts and posters that i like and respect some kind of credit.

Just curious, but gosh, this sounds like i've nothing better to do, so i'll beat it now...

I just approved your last post and added a test comment. If you check your user CP you should be able to see it. From the user CP you can change the view mode for the reputation so you might have to fiddle some but eventually you will see a list of recent comments. You will also get a number, which I think is the net number of comments (+1 for a positive one, -1 for negative). My own number hasn't changed in months so either it's not used much or people can't be bothered commenting on my posts.

Ok, great! Now that i see that this works and that the comments are registered with the poster, i went to go beef up some rep and this is what i got: "You need to spread some reputation around before giving it to Neil Gendzwill again." HAHA!

I guess i better go spread some love like Johnny Appleseed...time to look up my favorite posts.

Yeah, I've gotten several really nice remarks in mine. :) So, does this work like eBay feedback? If someone gets enough people saying he's an idiot, do we get to boot him?

It looks like the rep thingy has been removed. It used to be up there with the 'report a bad post' button.

It's still there. It's the balance scale Icon on the left, next to the "Report bad post" Icon. At least, for me, I see it. Just click on that.

Wait a sec,

How do you give someone good or bad reputation? I click in their profile and there doesn't seem to be anything.

That's because you need 1000 posts to enable that reputation option....

To the right above a post, you'll see a little set of scales. If you click on it, you will have the options "I approve of this post" and "I disapprove of this post" along with a small text field to add a comment (i sometimes use that to tell the user who it's from).

The "level" of reputation shows up when you pass the mouse over the little green square, e.g. "Sally is on a distinguished road," "Bob is an unknown quantity at this point." Or you can look at the member's list and sort by rep.

I don't think most people are even aware of this function, and if they are, they don't seem to use it much or with much thought. If such were the case, people like Neil, JMarsten & Kirin would have full props (sounds like brown-nosing, but it's the truth), i would have less (i got most of it from this thread, haha), and some individuals would probably have a little RED square for "troll" by now.
