...for those who are interested in seeing some kendo-related photojournal (and also some bits of naginata), I updated my old WKC pic site:-
http://www.geocities.com/wkc12pic/
Enjoy :)
p.s. is it taking too long to load? I try to keep all the pic under 30k each.

Bug attack!!! (http://www.geocities.com/wkc12pic/kanto/kanto05.jpg ) :silly:
I always like colour kendo photos as opposed to black and white.
Which looks better?
This? (http://www.geocities.com/wkc12pic/kanto/kanto03.jpg)
Or this (http://www.geocities.com/wkc12pic/nagisem04/nagisem_a.jpg)
But nice photos. When I went to Japan my host farther and some of the people at the Dojyo took some photos of me. It is surprising how it looks so light at the time but darker in the photos. I am sure that they were darker in Japan than when I saw them in the UK lol.

There is no bug... just that too many of you trying to load the page at the same time, "exceeding the data transfer limit". The site should be back up in an hour, so try again later... that's what you get when I didn't pay for their webspace... :ko:
B&W isn't too bad... the Uni Taikai series should be better. Depends on the lighting and quality of the scan (as my scanner is half-broken!), because those are not digital prints. I developed those at Ilford's lab (and they are surprisingly crap) I have to re-adjust the contrast/brightness one by one...:confused2

From pictures of that demo I've seen before, I'm pretty sure the high grade in Jodan is Holt Sensei.
How are things running at Brighton Uni Kendo?

Was just looking at the Lidstone pictures and noted that the guy who won the tournament also got fighting spirit. I've never heard of that before, usually the fighting spirit award goes to someone in the best 8, never to a top 4 finisher. Is this normal in UK competition?

No, usually to a top8 - (4), but never seen it given to a winner (before now, anyway).

Hi all,
Updated 3 more sections today.
And also edited some bad links - like the Japan Matsuri one... if you missed the Yabusame, you can see it now!
... Sorry for the traffic jam as the site is getting 100 hits a day this week. Situation should improve weeks after.
As for the fighting spirit question... either ask D'Artagnan himself who won it, or Phil Mclauglin won was refereeing that day.
Cheers,
Musha

Thanks for the Bowden and Premire's pics. I'll try and go to the Premires this year maybe Bowden too although I am not registered.. :D
I don't like that Badminton court though, maybe hard on the feet I prefer nice shiny wood.

P.s it keeps going down :(. Just did it half way though looking at some pics. You need to pay some money for a site :D.
Nice pics of last years Bowden mingshi
Bring your camera again this year, thats if you are coming up.
Is Brighton Uni putting a team in ?
Musha
The floor is a sprung gymnastic thing.
Not to hard on the feet and there is some give in it.

The gym floor at Stoke is actually made out of rubber... Try pressing it with your index finger! :D
hmm not going this year to the Bowdens. Had enough people at Brighton but they all went away for June...grrr. I do fancy going thru 2 rounds at Premier's Cup again! In this month's update I'll shoot something for Iaido as there is the Nationals coming up. The next big Kendo thing for me will be the IKET in Edinburgh... Time to have some friendly bashing hmmm...
I'd have to build a portfolio site pretty soon so all the pics will be be moved eventually. But Jakob thanks anyway.
p.s. Ever wonder why IKET isn't called something like Gokusei Kendo Enbu Taikai, or International Kendo Demonstration Championships...? Although its abbreviation can be read out easily, but "outsiders" don't know whats going on... (one of my senpai was asking "what's Enbu" the other day...)

No, this is not the norm in the UK, in fact i have never seen it before. Hence i was incredibly suprised when they awarded it to me. However, the BKA made it very clear that this was not the norm so as not to discourage the other competitors.

My camera - around 3.2 mega pix the new one, and 2.1 the old one... However I never get to use the highest setting for these photos. It takes too long to save a big file... I do it at "normal" res all the time, since I never really need to print the photos out. If I do I'd need a 5+ mega pix one!
The SLR / manual camera I had is great for the B&Ws and colour films with a different ISO. And the lens is great. The bad thing is I have to spend $$ to get everything printed...
Also... I am not taking pics "on demand"... I am just taking as opportunity arrives...
BTW new photos from the IKET and National Iaido / Jodo Taikai was added this week. Nothing spectacular but they serve my purpose. Please be patient as you're highly likely to experience another traffic jam...
Enjoy!

Jenny - just checked out your tech spec. Noticed that you've shot Ilford Delta at 3200: how's the grain like on paper?
I'm a fan of Ilford Delta but I only use 100/400 ISO.

Hey Jenny, I didn't know you snapped a photo during the kyudo workshop.
There's me next to O'Brien sensei in photo 20 and the only kendoka in a white dogi in the kyusha group!
Any photos from the party on Saturday night?

Feel free to link to the new address with clearer layout, now that all 2004 ones are there:-
http://www.mingshiwan.co.uk/budojournal/
ISO 3200 gives good shades and shadows but too grainy for details. I got them in 3x4 inch prints and they are already overly "dotty". If you want to see people's faces then use a lower rating...
As for the IKET party, Stan... I am sure there are other people taking "friendship photos", but for the rest, YOU HAVE TO BE THERE  right..?
