Hi everyone,
My intermidate class just got our gi and I have been tied up with school and the flu and missed on how to put on the uniform correctly. I don't want to go to class with my pants half on and ask for help. Can anyone help me out here lol? Detailed instructions, or a link to a website that has them. Thanks again and sorry for silly thread.

Hey there! Even though I am very much a beginner, I recieved a packet that told me everthing when I went to a beginner lesson camp thing. I'll type it word for word *ahem*:
Hakama
Hakama is a divided skirt which allows leg freedom. It also aids in concealing the foot movements from an oppenent. Upon first wearing the keiko-gi, the student then stepes into the hakama, holding the front section ( the part without the stiff board, koshi-ita) and wraps the two long tapes back, front and secure snugly in the back. Bringing the back section with koshi-ita pressed to the small of the back, and it is tied in the front. The length should be so that it will not drag on the floor, causing one too trip.
(O yes and sorry for the spelling errors)
And if that doesn't work or is too confusing, ask your sensei.
Hope it helps,
N-o-wa :gasmask:

Just take it (and some normal pants) and head down to the dojo. I'm sure that there will be more than one person there who will be more than happy to show you how to put it on.

A lot of ways to tie hakama and also obi (http://kimonoo.net/kituke.html) Site is unfortunately in japanese, but I think picutres are good enough. You just need to keep in mind, that those instructions are divided to a few pages, so you will have to find a botton to proceed on the next page.

If you weren't there, then it's no problem to say that you weren't there and need to learn how to put it on. Describing how to put on a hakama is best taught in person.

Thirty seconds of personal time beats a whole lot of internet how-tos.

Yeah, best would be to ask someone, don't worry I've asked a few times already, and I'm supposed to know by now.
Oh, and here is a website with some pretty good instructions.

There is something else you need to learn in addition to wearing the hakama, that is learning to fold your hakama.

hi everyone,
there were some fairly good links posted here, i especially liked http://www6.vc-net.ne.jp/%7Eisiyosi/tyakusou.htm and http://kimonoo.net/kituke.html. the method showed on the naginata site seemed a bit complicated in my eyes. just for the purpose that the backside of the hakama does not hang down and your underpants aren't revealed. (or your blank backside, if you practise freedom kendo :D) a little bit childish IMO if you dress amongst your sex.
btw. can anybody tell me, what a obi is good for except for more sweating in that area?
