As a matter of interest what does a Naginata cost new? Second hand?
Are there certain types to steer clear of?
Are there any training organizations in Australia? I would love to see what it looks like in person.

Hello
Yes, there is naginata practised in Australia. Have a gander at
http://home.vicnet.net.au/~austnf/ . That links to both practicing groups ( melbourne + sydney)
I do not know much about the NSW dojo ( apart from being a friendly mob!), I am in melbourne ( I believe some people from sydney occasionaly post? -- there was a thread about it not long ago but I cannot seem to find it ). We are just moving to 1pm practice on Saturdays ( be there a little before 1pm say 12:45).
The cost to buy (through the club) was around $100Australia ( habu + ebu + shipping). You can mail order but if not buying in bulk your shipping costs will look a bit high.
If you want more information please do not hesitate to ask!
