I took to an old shinai that was beyond repair . Cut about half a foot of the damaged end ,rebound it ,and now my young son is trotting around the house with a very light , not too shabby looking tot sized Shinai!!:)
Ah the future looks good:smiley:

We cut them down, put weights on the end, and use them as home-practice shinai. . . It's a good thing when it's 104 degrees outside and you can practice suburi in your living room. :)

how about cutting down the pieces and making chop sticks out of them? that's an idea I plan on doing in the near future. Wonder if it is safe though? any wisdom guys?

Won't you need the Elves to put the shinai together?

Hotei: You have me interested. When i first read this thread i too thought that such a short shinai could be used as a home practice shinai (i live in an apartment with a low ceiling), although i suspected the weight and balance of the shinai might be all awkward, so this putting weights on sounds interesting.
What do you use for weights? and how do you put these weights on so they don't fall of? (i dont think it would be pretty to have weights flying around the living room  )

I think you can buy weights specifically for Shinai, such as this from e-mudo: Suburiko (http://www.e-mudo.com/Pds/Products/suburiko_2_455.jpg)

Sentunim already answered for me. :) They work really well after you get past the feeling that they're going to fly off (which they don't. . .) If you feel like you need more weight, or you just want to feel like you're using a heavy suburito, you can put these (http://www.weplay.com/bat/weights/)on above it and it will prevent them from flying off, as well. Hope this helps. Good luck!
