K... I have heard story after story of this tournament and wanted to know what they deal is.
I kept hearing that it was being planned, then it was cancelled, then I heard it was definitely gonna be held in Fresno.
Next I heard that it was an invitational, then it was an open tournament. What is the deal?

Hi Tim,
The latest I've heard down here in So Cal is that it's still on and NCKF, CCKF, SCKF and SCKO are all invited to participate. It'll be held at Cal State Fresno on Sunday, September 5.

I thought my last match with you was pretty physical, but then again I'm not really built to be able to resist a guy as big as you.

That was a nice tsuki, but what is with all that pacing around ? i.e. dropping kamae, etc...
This is kind of arrogant attitude and generally is not encouraged, which dojo is that ?

thats west coast kendo baby!!!! Hey dude! everyone has a different way of doing shiai. Arrogant attitude????? this isn’t all about kendo, its about flash...all about fun!!!!! but yeah...some people don’t have fun doing kendo :devious:
they think kendo is all about sticking a rod up their ASS and acting like they can hand down judgment on others just because they have a paper that says they have the mentality of a 5 year old...of I mean 5 dan hahahaha! Just like me I am 4 years old!!!! If that’s your game playa that’s your game…go have fun, I won’t stop ya! And yea…I don’t deserve my rank! If a person wants to eat bland wheat bread…dude go for it. but me….I want the meat lovers pizza with stuffed crust and a freaking side of ranch for dipping…what the heck drenching!!! If I am going to do something, I might as well have fun! Why you gotta hate the game playa???? Show some love for the glove!!! Peace ( and not the kind my country is supposedly handing out)!!!

Tru, but in Cali, its also about having fun too. I use kendo as an escape from schooling and what not. I also enjoy other sports such as paintball and bball so maybe I play a bit arrogantly too since I took all the "entertainment" side of those sports and incorporated it into my kendo. Hey, reiho is reiho and I display that too when I practice, but when I am on the court, I put EVERYTHING I have into my match. Maybe I show some arrogance, but I know that I went out there and gave it everything I got win or lose.
Plus in america, lots of Japanese practicioners come to practice because "motto jiyuu ni shugyoo dekiru". They don't really feel confined or too stuffed up and they still get a good workout.
Edit-oh ya kurukuru! Are you gonna play in the All Cali Champs?

Don't go baggin' on my sensei, that was his first competative match in over 4 years. Dude stood-up after sankyo and dropped a mad tsuki on his opponent (who also happens to be a friend and co-worker) and then gave a out a stretch to show that all the rust was gone and he indeed was BACK!
so he showed a little "Venice Pride", like Kurukuru says if you love the play don't hate the Playa!
But what was all that talk about pizza? i just woke up and I'm H U N G R Y!

If you watch the video carefully it appears that he is not happy with what he did. He looks pretty keyed up to me. Understandable if he had not competed for four years.
If this is Andy then I have practiced with him and had a very nice keiko at Venice. A real nice guy.

Cool - Inouye and Hongs, maybe we can finally have that beer...
Are French and Kendomilitia coming?
We're going up Saturday and will go to the Welcome party and maybe the godogeiko depending on when we arrive. I am trying to confirm locations both.
Does anybody know for sure if the godogeiko is at CSUF North Gym or maybe it's at one of the dojos??

Jamie..
Thanks for the offer, but I'll be taking the wife and kid along. We're staying at the Ramada Inn on Shaw. The welcome party is more of a dinner. It is being handeled by NCKF. Since that is where I'm from originally I was told I could go. I'm not sure where the godo keiko will be held, but I can find out and let you know. Hope I can do better than third this time. :cross_eye
Kiki..
Looking forward to seeing you again.

Seems like most everybody I met down at N/S will be there. Looking forward to it. I will be damned if I let all the times I went to kyoka renshu go to waste at this tournament.
Its exactly one week from today, so bring your best stuff, let it loose when you play, and most importantly, have fun.
Tim
Are most of you going to the Welcome party and/or the Godogeiko?
I'd like to meet those of you I haven't yet. My tare reads: Tynan/OSULA.
Here's the info I promised:
At this time, the Saturday godogeiko is planned to be at the North Gym on
campus; a followup formal announcement will be made to each of the
federation presidents and representatives in a few days.
The Welcome Party location has been decided; it will be held on Saturday,
September 4, 2004, from 7PM, at a restaurant called:
TANG DYNASTY
2066 W. Shaw Avenue
[NW corner of West Ave. & Shaw Avenue]
Fresno, California
Tel. (559) 432-6118
Hopefully, maps will be at Godogeiko

Hey Jamie! I got past an SCKO guy with a hansoku point and then kote but then lost to Hashimoto from Chuo. He got me with a nuki men in OT. How did you do? Your young guys are pretty good with the waza. I saw one get one of my boys with a kaeshi men. They're also pretty energetic too. These 2 boys from norwalk were almost running all over the court.
Nice seeing you again mrkurukuru. Ya, I was watching the kata and they did do all the kata but out of order. I think they went 12354... instead of 12345. Well, at least you didn't hear the anthem. Whooooeeeee... My ears were in a bit of pain. I guess the guy was nervous. Still respect the guy for going out solo, but... (-_-;
I guess my highlight was going against Shikai sensei in the godo keiko and having him smile at me while he kicked my ass. hahahahahaha I'm still glad to see that he still has his helicopter men and his kneel down dou.

Hate to disappoint but...from the looks of the scrapes, bruises and sprains I see on guys in the yudansha - even the higher ranks, there is no escaping the "Bruisers". IMHO: People learn to play with finesse or they don't, regardless of rank.
Congrats on your trophies. Hope they make the bruises hurt less.

Will..just remember the story of the old bull and the young bull standing on the hill. In the end, age will have the advantage.
You're right!
The age of the bulls is suppose to be a representation of experience, and in our case experience in Kendo. The young bull is suppose to be naive while the old is suppose to be perfected through time, and since I've been doing Kendo longer than you, I am in fact, the old bull despite being half your age.
Have a good day.
