you bet, everything you ever wanted to know about Kendo is in the katas

That may be a bit of an overstatement but you should definitely learn them. and if your sensei encourages it then it's probably a good idea, that's why we call them sensei

yup, you should watch those. when you've finished watching those try mastering one of them when you do keiko. when you've mastered it, move to the next easy kata.

If I'm not mistaken they have video's of all 10 katas on the multimedia section of this website (the main site that is, not the forum)

 Yeah me too!

In my third class I was introduced to ipponme - gohonme. Sensei said that it's never too early to start learning kata.

Well, if your sensei doesn't mind. I would suggest learning in person. There are a lot of subtle nuances in kata. You learn the basics and the nuances from senpai and sensei. It's best to do them and have a senior person watching and correcting you. You get corrected about a million times just learning the first kata.

We practice Kata 2 out of 3 times per week. It is never too early to learn and as mentioned it it the basis of Kendo and a lot can be learned.
