Thanks for the great clips Vansen San,
I'd better upgrade my ADSL plan soon. I think I used more than half of my limit during those files.

~taganahanYou do not have the DIVX codec installed. We can get the video working correctly by either downloading and installing the free DIVX codec.
http://www.divx.com/divx/?src=toptab_divx_from_/index.php
Get the free one.

Or you can try downloading a media player that has DIVX built in. You can try VLC. http://www.videolan.org/vlc/

Please post up any more problems you have.

Mate - is it Kim v Smith in the Dan Pool or Itakura v Smith?

taganahan
06-07-2004, 06:07 AM
on the second batch of videos, is the smith the same guy who was doing jodan on the first batch of videos?

the nito match was also very good, though the nito player didn't score any points...

Kim V Smith is a cat 3 Dan pool match. Not the same Smith in the open (cat 4)semi or final. Not even the same gender :D

For some strange reason, in Australia we have many top ranked players named Smith.

cheers ben.

In that video, the scoreboard says Smith v Itakura with the former in white (M. Smith should be in red). And Itakura should be Kim I presume.

I like how you've included those freeze-frames with the proper datotsu specified. I really enjoy those videos!

Next time, set up 50 cameras for some serious matrix fun! :D

Hey in the last post you had
Kyu Pool Ng v UNSW John Doe.avi (http://202.173.131.115/svn/kendo/Kyu%20Pool%20Ng%20v%20UNSW%20John%20Doe.avi)that link didnt work due to the fact you had spaces in between the words. No one would have been able to download it.

Could you post that again please? thanks :)

Fixed the Kim V Smith scoreboard (thanks Andoru for pointing that out).

I've been told that I'm spoiled by broad band access and I'm leaving out the average modem user

I'll be happy to compress a low bandwidth version but the quality will really suck.
So are my movie files too big?

Cheers,
Ben

the size of it is really good, i mean the viewing size. it's the biggest viewing size i've seen cause most of videos i've seen are so small you can't even tell what he did. good job!! hope you have more videos that you can share... for those modem users, you just have to be patient cause you get what you pay for, in this case....what you wait for. the quality is really good. not too grainy and not too small.

i agree. most kendo vids out there on the net are so small and grainy that they are not worth looking at... keep them big please, and keep up the good work! :) i really enjoy your videos. with the nice editing, the slowmo's and the good quality, they are really the best i have found so far...

Yay!

Andoru

The size is just right Vansen. It's time for 56kers to get broadband I reckon! :D

moetl

i agree too. in some videos you can't even tell where the shinai is at the moment... i like that slomo!

ps: what about shortening the slomo-parts in the videos for modem-users? f.e. just show the 10% version.
pps: at the beginning of each video the video is completely black. the blackness only dissappears where the data changes/someone moves. so in some videos black spots stay throughout the whole lenght.

Moetl, I know this happens when you are using an older version of the DIVX codec. Update the codec / player and the video artefacts should disappear.

Looks like the masses have spoken.
Long live good quality video files!!!

I will need to re-edit this one. There were way to many Kim's in this devision.
Does any one know if the Kim in this vid is Daniel Kim or Tae-Hun Kim?

Cheers,
Ben.

The next bunch of vid's will be up in about a week. Five matches of the Kyu team finals.
UNSW V Moodo Kwan.

UNSW kyu team is strong :D

vansen, your videos make me think if those shinpan-flags shouldn't be better attached to the stick - already in 2 videos the flags came off ^^.
you ain't gonna tell me now that the referees are supposed to hold the cloth so it doesn't slip off the stick, do you???? ;)

anyway, vansen thanks a lot for the videos!

Actually, yes, that is what is supposed to be done. the flags are meant to be held with the index finger slightly extended, holding the flag to the stick. Well, at least that's what was said by Mike Davis (Kyoshi 7th dan and Shinpan for the finals of WKC 12) at the last reffereeing seminar he held in Ollerton, UK.

Why do you think todays high ranking sumo referees carry a ceremonial sword?

One of my Sensei's said in time gone by, the ref would be expect to commit sepukku if he made too many incorrect calls.

Swissv2
11-07-2004, 10:41 AM
man, I would feel bad for the poor bloke that had to do that.

If it was America, then referee wouldn't do such a thing, he would find someone to sue, and would not have a ceremonial sword, but a book of lawyers.

:D

(all in good taste, all in good taste)

"If you are not victorious, return upon your shield"

I have heard "Bearing your shield or bourne on it".
I think the earliest reference to this is in the writings of Plutarch, the original translation being "Another woman handed her son his shield, and exhorted him: 'Son, either with this or on this'".

Your quote lacks the juxdaposition of the images of the triumphand warrior carrying his shield and the dead warrior being carried on it.
